Oh boy this is extremely racist on top of being homophobic ("non-gender binary Indigenous societies" LOL). Textbook example of the "noble savage" stereotype, that Indigenous societies (which are incredibly culturally/linguistically/ethnically varied, geographically diverse, and all around different) were just made up of people too stupid and "savage" to know what biological sex and reproduction was. Even animals know what biological sex and reproduction is! Wtf.

Just because they didn't use the English word "homosexuality", they still knew, and know what it is, and accepted or stigmatized it in varying levels across different societies.

Also, the concept of "same-gender attraction" wouldn't "make sense in the future" because it doesn't make sense now, because it's false! Attraction always has been and always will be sex-based.

"non-gender binary Indigenous societies"

Next time someone says something like this I'm just going to ask "which ones?"

Do it. They won't be able to answer, because the whole concept of "non-binary Indigenous society" is a Tumblr construct. Most "Indigenous third genders" are just cultural terms for feminine homosexual men. Two spirit is a recent phenomenon, and doesn't come from any one nation in particular.
