Well, I had a good view of Ellen.

So, uh, does this means he will drop his future roles as female characters? And renounce everything he said about being lesbian? I mean, how can you come out as lesbian if apparently you were a straight man all along?

Frankly if this was just some random actress whatever, it's her life. But it's really disappointing coming from an actress that turned herself into a lesbian icon, that was upfront about her sexuality, but apparently he was never a woman, so also not a lesbian woman.

In a post where he mentions the words "trans" and "queer" multiple times, not once there is a mention of "lesbian" or "gay" - although these were the words Ellen used before, these were the communities she fought for. But apparently we were just stones to step on the way.

I wonder if her wife will now have to come out as bi/straight.

Was it made specifically today to silence the Keira Bell huge victory?

[–]worried19 49 insightful - 1 fun49 insightful - 0 fun50 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

My first thought. Anything to distract attention from that huge win.

Also notice how Bell winning her case is nowhere to be found on Google News, not even in the World or Health section. Yet Page is the top story in Entertainment.

All the big news outlets forgot about Keira Bell now, and her case got lost in praising of Page. While Keira was a huge win for a lesbians.

I guess no big win without even bigger loss?

[–]Rosefield 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Come on it's NOT a bigger loss. Like wtf.

[–]VioletRemiCat, homosexual one 25 insightful - 1 fun25 insightful - 0 fun26 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, I do agree that technically win is bigger. But Page was an icon for many young lesbians, who may now go transition as well.

I wouldn’t discount the possibility, the timing of this is rather suspect.

[–]reluctant_commenter 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Omg!! I somehow missed this in the last couple of days. Thanks for the news! That's fantastic.

[–]VioletRemiCat, homosexual one 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yep, and now everyone will miss, because all news are about Ellen Page, instead of Keira Bell.

holy crap, excellent observation!

[–]Prowindowlicker 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Wouldn’t surprise me

I wonder if her wife will now have to come out as bi/straight.

I just googled her, and the wife (Emma Portner) looks a good deal more manly than Page.

My prediction: They will both transition and will insist that everyone refer to them as a gay male couple.

That would be hilarious

Lucky you guys!

[–]bradjohnsonishere2 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I see what you mean but I think we should try to avoid calling women "manly" based upon their appearance. Emma Portner looks like a woman because she is a woman. I feel like sometimes we fall into the same gender stereotypes that fuels TRAs. I know this is a nitpicky comment so take it with a grain of salt but I feel like I see the GC community make comments like this when it feels like it goes against what we stand for. (Abolishing gender and the stereotypes that come with it.)

I loved her. She was one of my fav actresses who I really loved. An exalpe of beautiful lesbian woman And this is really sad. You know, the homosexual women dating poll is small, and the trans shit will really make it smaller. All of this make me disappointed in being homosexual,Would have less worries if I were bi.

oh yeah I'm curious is he now a straight dude? he mentioned he is queer but he is exclusively into women.. so queer is meaningless of course.

[–]blackrainbow 18 insightful - 2 fun18 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

Hopefully she will peak a lot of people

[–]Eurowoman24 14 insightful - 2 fun14 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

hope so. the extremism of this movement is cray cray. Question: as a non lesbian, am I allowed to say that it's not logical to ask lesbians to be attracted/open to dating trans women who are of the opposite sex? because according to a canadian friend of mine, I can't speak on that cause I'm not a lesbian, but no one gives me an answer IRL how that makes sense? I even start it with "if gender and sex are seperate .." - me casually trying to peak some people ;)

[–]blackrainbow 16 insightful - 1 fun16 insightful - 0 fun17 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No, you're using logic. We are homoSEXual! You could argue that for straight women too, you're allowed to reject trans men

[–]Eurowoman24 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well apparently I can think that but I can't say that. So can't advocate for others rights to their sexual orientation or justify mine. - basically you can't have an opinion that goes against the approved narrative.

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

You have every right to say the truth. So many lesbians stay silent on this or lie, b/c we're afraid of being called "tErF" and losing our friends. Is your Canadian friend a lesbian? Why do they have more right to speak than you?

[–]Eurowoman24 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

nope not even a lesbian, will keep trying if the opportunity comes up.

[–]GoValidateYourselfuseful lesbian 0 insightful - 1 fun0 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

If that friend of yours isn't even a lesbian, why is she adamant on controlling the narrative or who is allowed to talk on lesbian issues, and what stances are politically correct? If it's safe for you, I'd ask that (phrased in a kinder way though).

[–]Eurowoman24 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wasn't surprised every brainwashed sjw or sjw like person will say you can't speak on a certain issue if your not concerned. On trans issues? lol the correct stance is that lesbians should be open to dating people with dicks or they're invalidating them as women. - i kid you not someone insisted on that... then behind my back called me a bigot.

[–]ekitten 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Didn't Ellen say last year that she didn't want to play straight roles? But now she is a straight man. Hmm.
