Do we need new moderators/admins?

There has been a vast attack of spam recently and the folk here have raised their voice in ire against the spam, shall we request new mods/admins to help fight the spam?

What do you think?

I, if by the desire of others, may help moderate the spam!

What we need even more than more mods is more anti-spam tools. Technically saidit does have a few more tools that are native to reddit, but there's no frontend for them so they can't be accessed. I made frontends for some of them, but those updates haven't been pushed to the live site yet.

The last commit in the official project was in June 2018. I'm not holding my breath.

It never has been, because there haven't been any pushes to production for a long time. The owner is afraid of git so updates are rare.

No. I block them every morning. The mods don't get paid to ban hammer bone conducting headset spam.

Agreed. Moderation should be as minimalist as possible to keep a pleasant experience.

      Part of the problem is no one ever made a frontend for any of reddit's anti-spam tools, not so much that there aren't enough admins (although there's never anything wrong with having more). I did make some frontends but the site hasn't been updated since before then.

      I mean reddit had a active owner that made constant changes to the website. I think if we ignore the content control, the hivemind mindset and the new reddit, it was a good haul. They even let you use the original old reddit.

        Could you expand on that? On an individual level there's already the ability to block users, but I'm guessing people will get tired of that at some point.

        I just mess around with code sometimes and there are things out there that will allow you to fairly easily insert a browser window. If I had the time, I'd like to put something in between that allows you to block phrases (like bone conducting headphones), warn if a link is going to sites you don't want to give clicks to (Vice, for instance), and the like. I know there are plugins that will do all this stuff already, so I doubt I'll ever action this.

        I dont see why the automod can't block the words "bone conducting headphones". Or make posts from accounts with less than 20 points need approval.

        It isn't nice to introduce barriers to participation, because it can deter potentially good posters. Automod is a good measure.

        If it’s clearly stated that no one can be arbitrarily banned without at least 3 mods agreeing and a difference of opinion cannot be the basis for a ban, then sure. What worries me is it becomes Reddit Lite.

        First and foremost, because THIS IS NOT REDDIT. Our culture is hugely different. Many of us longer-time users of this site erase our accounts on occasion, for various reasons. This causes abandoned subs. That's not good. Also, we have a limit on how many subs you can mod.

        So yes, we do need more mods!
