Russia lost about 2 million soldiers in World War 1 and 9 million soldiers in World War 2.

Then at least 7 million civilians died in the Stalinist famines, while 1 million were directly purged by their own government.

300,000? Pffft. Does that even count as a border skirmish if you're Russian? That's like the number of Russian men who drink themselves to death every few years.

Russia is just sending its undesirables to the battlefield, so every death is profitable, because there are more resources left for the rest of their crabs.

We would need to see many statistical variables to know whether it would be damaging to Russia, which I surely don't have.

There's also a huge disconnect between people in large cities like Moscow and in whatever god forsaken hell hole the country side lives. So, as long as the city people don't need to give up their lattes, there is no problem.

Arbitrary statistics are meaningless when both sides are pumping out propaganda to prolong the conflict. At this point I don't see why anyone would trust the numbers or the motives of each involved.

It's not obvious what use in prolonging the conflict Ukraine has. If they stop fighting, they cease to exist.

It was noted that a ceasefire talk was on the table with hints of withdrawal if there were no further expansion of NATO to Russia's border, but Zelinsky was advised against it by Biden. The war machine persists.

Russia has never hinted that a ceasefire agreement with a withdrawal was on the table.

Quite the opposite, accepting the annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia and Crimea have been preconditions to discussions.

As the party being invaded, you can't prolong a conflict. That's up to the invader, unless you are not trying not to get the invader to go away, which isn't true. Calling it a conflict is also stretching definitions. There is no conflict; Russia just wanted Ukraine's resources (and was jealous of its economic development) and they took them.

Not sure whether you have ever seen any science-fiction movie where the aliens come to suck our planet dry, but they don't call those conflicts in these movies. They call it in an invasion. "War of the worlds" comes to mind. There's just annihilation and aggression. I doubt two parties could actually both be so mistaken to know who has a right to a given piece of land as Israel and the Palestinians pretend.

Regarding Israel and Palestine, one could at least argue there is a conflict, even though in that case the party with the biggest army is set to destroy the other party over time the way things are going now.

Anyone who involves the USA will result in a prolonged conflict. The military industrial complex needs your money.

That's not even English.

Meanwhile the flower of Ukranian manhood is being trampled. At LEAST a half million holhol men dead and at least as many maimed. Ukraine should quit fighting.

5:3 losses for fortified defenders? When the russian method explicitly favors meat assaults. You're nowhere near reality with your claim

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Yeah, he's probably wrong about that.

From an academic paper a few months ago:

Overall, we find that Russian and Ukrainian equipment losses are often comparable by category, but that Russian personnel losses outpace Ukrainian personnel losses. This may reflect accounts of poorly equipped Russian soldiers and ineffective supply lines leading to relatively higher human costs, a narrative that has been popular in the media. As of the one-year mark, Russia appears to have lost personnel relative to Ukraine at a rate of 5.53 to 1 (1.6:1–14.5:1). - Estimating conflict losses and reporting biases, Radford et. al. PNAS (2023)

Wow. Both of you people have REALLY shitty sources of information LMAO

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I wonder if you have to be desperate to cling to your mistaken beliefs or if you're being paid to spread misinformation to have your sources of information so completely inverted that you would classify the peer reviewed scholarly literature published in high impact journals as "shitty".

... Dare I ask what you'd classify as a good information source?

[–]iamonlyoneman 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

There is no good source of information in this war and won't be until decades after. But if you aren't at least keeping an eye on pro-russian analysis like simplicius and moonofalabama, you are only sucking down one flavor of propaganda

because perhaps you like it

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There is no good source of information in this war and won't be until decades after.

So on the scale where the peer reviewed scholarly literature from prestigious academic journals is a "REALLY shitty" source of information, what is the best source of information that currently exists?

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Ukraine should quit fighting.

And do what?

[–]iamonlyoneman 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Literally that's all. They would rebuild their society with western donations, half of which would be skimmed off the top by local politicians, and life would go on.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Literally that's all.

Wouldn't Ukraine fall, and the Russian ethnic cleansing be extended to the whole of Ukraine?

They would rebuild their society with western donations

Where?

[–]iamonlyoneman 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Russia wants to consolidate their gains and possibly a strip of land as a neutral buffer zone. If they wanted all of ukraine, they would have it by now. They set out to gain the regions they have gained and are now allowing ukraine to punch itself out and they'll establish border security and set up fresh Russian society in the new West-Russian provinces of formerly-East Ukraine.

Russia doesn't want to do any ethnic cleansing. Ukraine has been busy at it since 2014 though.

All of Ukraine will be rebuilt. literally all but the smallest hamlets. Watch.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Russia wants to consolidate their gains and possibly a strip of land as a neutral buffer zone.

Not a good idea to give them that. They took Crimea, and consolidated for 6 years, then invaded pressed forward.

f they wanted all of ukraine, they would have it by now.

Remember that 40 mile long convoy heading for Kyiv from Belarus? That stalled about 15 miles from Kyiv?

What do you think such a large force was going to do in Kyiv?

Russia doesn't want to do any ethnic cleansing.

Why all the mass graves and children being sent to russia then?

Ukraine has been busy at it since 2014 though.

Certainly the invasion and annexation of Crimea soured relations between previously friendly people. But Ukraine hasn't been cleansing, that's Russian propaganda to justify the invasion.

All of Ukraine will be rebuilt.

Russia will have to withdraw or retreat before that can be completed.

[–]iamonlyoneman 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

There is no giving. They are taking it. They only moved into Donbass when Ukraines literallynazis started thousands-per-day shelling operations of ethnic russians in Donbas.

The convoy of local guards in obsolete armor, which was an obvious and highly successful attempt to contain the troops in Kiev long enough for russia to destroy their ability to mobilize those troops to the front? Yeah I remember, it was great.

Mass graves are gonna happen when you have a half million dead. The children, you prefer they were sent to orphanages in the war zone?

I only believe the propaganda i like

k

Russia will rebuild in the East, and the Clinton Foundation and Blackrock will build in the West of Ukraine.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

They only moved into Donbass when Ukraines literallynazis started thousands-per-day shelling operations of ethnic russians in Donbas.

Bullshit.

1) Russia has a much larger nazi problem than Ukraine. The "deNazification" is transparent Russian propaganda.

2) Russian speakers didn't have any problem in Ukraine until the Russian invasion. 100% of the animosity arises from that.

The convoy of local guards in obsolete armor, which was an obvious and highly successful attempt to contain the troops in Kiev long enough for russia to destroy their ability to mobilize those troops to the front?

No, the 40 mile long convoy containing tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery supply trucks, about 15,000 Russian troops supported by mobile anti-aircraft systems, with orders to take Kyiv that were so secret, that even the troops didn't know that even commanders did not receive their orders until 24 hours before the invasion.

I don't know what I'm on about

Yeah, I know.
