Grueling. It involved drilling holes in sheet metal, sawing metal pieces, tightening bolts as well as holding 4' * 10' heavy gauge galvanized steel sheets in place to mold edges in a hydraulic folding machine. As an added bonus you get plenty of scratches from the corners of the metal sheets.

I got fired for refusing to be treated like shit. The job was in a steel shop that makes ventilation conduits for AC systems in buildings and such. Just a month in and my joints were aching and my carpal tunnel issue got worse. Not a big loss really.

Let me try to explain myself better, because I agree with what you are saying.

The point I am attempting to make is about taking on the psychological burden of an entire society

This isn't healthy, and can make you fucking depressed.

Ultimately I can't control human civilization as a whole, just like I can't control the height of a mountain. I wouldn't identify the mountain with any type of internal 'we', even if I live on the mountain and have a stake in it. Civilization is external in the same way, but it isn't even a real 'thing', it is just a concept. Taking on the psychological burden for all of humanity is too much, and it is ultimately a choice. For me a change in the way I related myself to society was helpful in relieving this burden. Yes I care about the state of the society I live in, and my choices matter - but my choices are all that I can control and be responsible for.

I am merely relating to OP what was helpful to me in achieving a healthier outlook for my own life, as I know this can be a difficult thing to struggle with.

Yes, society is inherently bad, and civilization is probably collapsing - but who cares, fuck them anyway.

When society did something stupid, and I felt like we did it, it made me 'doomy'.

You need to stop thinking about society in terms of 'we', and think about it as a feature of your environment like a mountain or a river. This way you can put emotional distance between those negative thoughts that you rightfully have, and your own feelings. You are only a doomer if you are emotionally invested in the well-being of civilization, which I would say you shouldn't be if you hold those beliefs about it's inherent 'badness'.

I truly hope something I said helps you, I know from personal experience that the mindset of 'doomering' is not good for your psychological health, and can be tough to get out of.
