This is a very weird time, I have to admit. I grew up during the Cold War. Everyone but the communists agreed that NATO was a good thing. Everyone knew that a proxy war against the Soviet Union would bleed them out and hasten their downfall. We have Russia in a no-win situation: they have to play very carefully fighting against Ukraine because they know they can't fight a war against NATO without seeing Moscow turned to glass, but NATO is throwing one-generation old military technology at Ukraine and its effective.

I'm against US and NATO troops in NATO, but I like seeing Moscow being humiliated and pushed back by Ukraine. This feels like a win-win, and I can't see a scenario where I would support Vlad the Impaler Putin.

You've entirely failed to make any points whatsoever. Russia is a threat because it has nuclear weapons. Do you deny that? Ukraine held Russia off in their first wave a year ago, and that's when the world realized that they could deplete Russia of all their power by proxy, and it's worked.

Your shortsightedness is literally the reason that Russia has become more of a threat since Putin's rise. They are literally threatening neighbors from the Baltic States to Poland to Georgia. All the former Soviet Republics and Warsaw Pact states clearly believed that Russia was still a threat, and only the vigilance of NATO has kept the Russian Federation from swallowing up countries like Lithuania and Georgia entirely.

As for your statement about the costs, your claims of "healthcare for everyone" is a pathetic joke. As for a wall, we could simply remove illegals directly, not have to deal with the expense of their presence, and use that money to build the border wall. No. You have to understand that the majority of violence portrayed in the news happens in the top 25 largest cities in the US. Once you get out of those major cities, the chance of violence drops intensely. The vast majority of violent crimes are due to gang violence, over money, drugs, or turf; those are centered in the inner cities as well.

Major cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles have areas that are deeply unsafe and you should not attempt to enter under any circumstances, but once you leave those huge cities altogether, the violence drops intensely.

The US media doesn't tell you that because it gets in the way of the narrative their pet issues are the real problem: they're not. 99% of the areas of the US are extremely safe and sees little to no violence year over year.

I fail to see any connection between Zuckerbucks and Citizens United. The latter was using media to a show that one candidate was unworthy of being elected president. The other was quite literally private entities donating millions of dollars to fund the official government vote-counts in the 2020 elections.

Those two issues having nothing in common, are legally two different areas of electoral influence, and one is objectively about actual free speech, while the other is literally getting local vote counters to tally votes in a way the benefits one candidate over the other.

The first accusation, prolonging the war and maximizing deaths, is the most contentious and the hardest to prove.

As for the second and third, I think a lot of Americans would be in favor of both of those things. Putin is literally a former KGB spook with ideas of expanding Russia back to its USSR or Imperial borders. I watch a lot of news, and I haven't seen any Western leaders call for Putin's ouster. Moreover, most Americans see the expansion of NATO as a very good thing. The entire point of NATO was to check the power of the Soviet Union and prevent it from expanding, so a proxy war where NATO soldiers' lives aren't on the line and Ukraine gets Western military technology seems like the perfect balance to me.

I have yet to hear any compelling arguments that the invading Russians are the "good guys" or even that, other than the fiscal expense, NATO shouldn't be aiding Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Mainstreet Republicans would love laws which decorporatize. The small business has always been the best form of economy, because it keeps the manufacturing and retail as close to the consumer as possible. Were it not for the constant footsie played by massive corporations at the federal level, this would be nearly as bad as it is.

Remove all federal subsidies, and numerous corporations would go bankrupt like magic. Quit giving sweetheart deals to major companies, and if they have to appeal to the consumer, hundreds mid-sized companies will wreck those bigger companies.

Take it further: allow individual states to incorporate banks; bring back savings-and-loan companies; spread power over the economy away from the federal government. Then they won't have the power to reward already monstrous corporations.

Big government isn't the solution to America's problems: big government is the problem.

By that logic, Georgia and Moldova should have subordinated themselves to being bent to the will of Russia and promised never to join NATO. Finland and Sweden have literally spent decades placating first the Soviet Union and then the Russian Federation by stating that they wouldn't join NATO. They simply wanted Russia to leave the other states alone. Georgia was no threat to Russia, but they wanted economic and security assurances that EU and NATO membership might bring, so Russia fanned the flames insurgent groups and made sure that NATO won't touch them with Russia-friendly breakaway Republics.

Moreover, Zelensky wasn't even president in 2014 when Russia invaded the Ukraine the first time, literally taking the Crimea in contradiction to the treaty the nation signed promising to respect Ukraine's sovereign territory.

This is classic victim-blaming. Commenter /u/Alphix blames Zelensky for all the post-2014 bombings, even though he didn't take office until 2019. Crimea was specifically recognized by Russia, via treaty, as part of Ukraine. Putin stomped all over that treaty in 2014, and nothing anyone says or does can change that unalterable fact.

The idea that "all Zelensky" had to do was state he was not join NATO was, effectively, a subordination to the Russian state, much like Belarus and Armenia. They would have to settle to being a functional puppet of Putin and his regime. If you're just OK with a "soft" version of the Soviet Union, that's your business. But I for one won't buy into such tactics.

Actual knobs and buttons have tactility that are easier for drivers to navigate, while screens require precision that can't mimic that. When you don't have to keep your eyes on the road (AKA the car is mostly driving itself), that difficulty will disappear.

The backlash will affect the industry, but in the coming years, touch screens will return in every autonomous vehicle. If they can be jailbroken, that might end up being a good thing for the consumer in the long tun.

Nations never learn: nationalizing industries harms the industry in several ways.

  1. Because governments don't care about reaching profitability, they tend not to improve efficiency or improve the extraction, either in seeking property sources or improving processes. Quality drags.

  2. Corruption becomes rife. Positions get awarded based on personal connections, rather than anything close to merit. People can be put in jobs they have no business holding, and the industry weakens.

  3. Again, lacking any profit motive, government agencies are not motivated to stand up to strikers and will commonly offer sweet contracts to the workers and play footsie with the lawyers who "lead" the unions themselves. This is all done at the taxpayer expense.

  4. No one cares about innovation. Nationalized industries don't have fresh blood who have new ideas of doing things. These efficiencies would actually be punished and ignored as they would interfere with existing union contracts. You can't bring in a machine that efficiently does the work of ten men when you are under long term obligation to keep those ten men on the payroll. That industry keeps those ten men, but twenty people who would be manufacturing those machine will never have jobs.

  5. Governments are really bad at providing replacement equipment, so machinery gets more and more worn out. And since the government also tends to not police itself, no one inspects or condemns shoddy equipment. Whistleblowers are persecuted and silenced, and government-friendly media won't report on these issues anyway. This leads to injuries and deaths that the taxpayer must cover.

This is one of a thousands small cuts that will lead Chile down the path of Venezuela.

RFK Jr is a serious environmentalist wacko. He doesn't have a chance whatsoever to get the nomination. He hasn't been in the Democrat system, he hasn't built up the necessary networks, and he cannot possibly run on some populist platform.

He would be far closer to Vlad Putin than even the establishment Democrats.

I was a long-time reddit user, with over a million karma. I was finally perma-banned from reddit a few days ago because I stated that I supported the death penalty for child abusers.

I knew it would happen someday, but I'm still shocked that holding such a view would be treated as "promoting violence."
