First fact is that strict majority of people I talked to are neither students nor affiliated with our university. We have something like 100k students and tons of staff, so it's not hard to find them! But yeah, "student encampment" is just objectively wrong as a description.

I asked "why protest here", esp. to folks who had no personal link to U of T. They said because U of T won't divest. I said U of T has no such investments other than index funds and the like, same as that owned by the Canada Pension Plan or Teacher's Pension or their parents 10/x Response was always "we agree, everyone's complicit in genocide". At one point, group I was talking to argued that Kenya sending peacekeeping troops to Haiti was colonial violence. Given language, I suspect IMT played a role in organizing

Communism eliminates private property ownership in an attempt to eliminate greed. Greed isn't great, but it is understandable. I can understand the motivation of someone who wants to haggle a better price out of something. If greed isn't driving someone, then power and narcissism will. I cannot fathom another person's narcissism. Nobody will be able to trust anybody about anything.

I came across an article while doing some searches that talked a communist group from the 70s/80s was opposed to gay rights because they believed it was a misogynistic attack on women's rights. Very confusing topic to research, with both liberals & communists advocating and rejecting gay rights or ownership of the gay rights movement.

In the 1950s & 60s, Soviets used to mock the degeneracy of the west, while they were upholding classical traditions.

The industry (calling itself "LGBTQ") is worth $3.4T according to their own estimates. This includes the exploding market for surgeries, (and endless follow-up surgeries - each patient can be worth $1M extra over their lifetime,) manufacturing hormones to be doled out at every Planned Parenthood to any teen who walks in, insurance products, and in particular, the fast-growing surrogacy (AKA forced, designer birth) industry that the sterilized transhumanist children of today will need if they want to have kids. An industry ripe for exploitation.

All that said, it is remarkable that such an industry has grown in such a short time. It would lead one to think that the billionaires pushing this thing must be really driven by some intense desire or dark obsession of some kind.

Most western countries with public healthcare either fully or partly fund drugs & trans surgery. Well we don't agree that all sorts of medical procedures should be legal, privately funded or otherwise (eg. lobotomies.) Though the way healthcare works today, we'll all have to pay for this somehow. Personally I'd rather see us place greater limits on unnecessary plastic surgery, and in particular remove any public funding for it, along with removing any requirements for insurers to cover it.

"Gender identity" is a faith-based concept. If people want to believe in disembodied, synthetic sex identities, there's not a whole lot we can do to prevent it. Consenting adults should probably be allowed have their own associations or clubs where they all agree to use whatever pronouns they made up, and share whatever bathroom they want. But it's unscientific nonsense that has no place in laws or public schools, any more than astrology does.
