I can understand why the CCP would be interested in the technology, since it directly competes with their rare-earth mineral interests in regards to the current state of 'green' tech. If a bio-chem based energy source can be developed and made practical, then it essentially becomes ubiquitous because most countries would be able to create the fuel for it with a degree of gearing in their supply chains. I mean, if your country has any kind of agriculture, you can produce the maltodextrin. You can't do that with copper, lithium, cobalt, or any of the other materials that go into other tech.
