It's all in place unless ISPs start censoring and banning VPNs. Search is a huge weakness though that bothers me and doesn't seem to get enough of the right attention.

Do you know much about creating VPNs?

IMO we should create our own. It need not be SaidIt exclusive.

IMO we need to start doing all the things for ourselves.

yeah, running a VPN with linux is no sweat. you just need a $5/mo server somewhere. there's a strong argument that this defeats the purpose of a VPN, if you are the only ip using it. But it has its uses. A free for friends VPN would be cool and cheap.

VPNs are all centralized?!?! What if servers could share VPN running? We get everyone and their friends to co-host, and obviously have a way to detect and eject problems. My idle laptop could help.

I have a bunch of other ideas too but I'd need to sober up. I can't type for shit.

VPNs are all centralized?!?!

Yeah basically. If you're not mixing your traffic with others' traffic, then you're not really hiding your traffic. I'm kinda meh on the whole thing, I have a right to say Fuck the Feds, they can note me down now those motherfuckers.

I have yet to use a VPN, other than TOR years ago. I couldn't afford it if I wanted to. I also didn't want to slow down my limited connection. The more I found out the less it seems like a good idea. And the more I find out the more many seem like a scam/hustle/tracker. Still, every once in a while I reconsider it.

Almost seems like the VPN wheel needs to be reinvented, decentralized, and with distinctions (ie. size/type of files, so limited-bandwidth folks may participate too, within their limits).
