How do you know when someone is simply looking at the data and drawing the correct conclusion, and when they are just "blaming a whole race"? Doesn't there have to be room for people to say "the shoplifting in this store is 90% of the time committed by a young black male"? Why is it that this statement, no matter how factual, is automatically labeled racist? Are the people who do that not ignorant? Are they not disingenuous in their argument? Are they not building a wall that prevents anything from being done about the problem? The first step to solving any problem is to acknowledge what the problem is. Nothing can ever be fixed when bullshitters are allowed to scuttle every conversation with blanket accusations of racism.

I draw a distinction between having an honest conversation about what the problem is and focusing on a particular group. I don't know what the solution should be but having a policy that only applies to one race is wrong. It is a difficult problem and should be discussed, but we should not throw the innocent black people under the bus.
