Disagree. Slashdot has low vote counts and does fine.
Saidit's value is dialectical quality. Indiscriminate upvoting undermines that.
Saidit's weakness is inability to downvote bad information. Indiscriminate upvoting exacerbates that.
Dialectic is always less popular than Reddit. Saidit doesn't directly compete with Reddit. Be patient about growth and focus on quality instead. Influence isn't correctly measured by clicks.

You can game the Slashdot moderation system by creating dozens of accounts, using them to mod each other up, meta moderate a lot to get a ton of mod points, and then suppress dissent in any political thread, which is most of them.
