It's extortion, because a payment is required before a scan is made. It should be considered under criminal law, shouldn't it?

Sounds like fraud to me. If I did this to someone, it would be labelled fraud for sure.

Printers are a goddamn scam, the one of the most successful ones, literally consumerism at it's peak.

Wouldn't this only apply for the AIO or scanners front-ended by printer companies, i.e. hp,samsung,epson?
Pick up an old scanner, put a new CCL in if needed, use SANE or NAPS and away ya go, matey. They really didn't think this one through.
