Death at the worst? Then you are definitely authorized to use the gun.

Depends on the racial component though. If a black person is beating a white person to death, they aren't allowed to use a gun in self defense. But, it's still better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

The problem is, open carry is illegal in New York, and the counties NYC is located in don't allow concealed carry either. This means you practically can't own a gun there. She would have been thrown in prison for exercising her 2nd amendment right.

Sorry guys. I’ve checked and rebelling against tyranny is illegal - George Washington

Do it anyways! Hopefully after more events like this people will realize what the Constitution is for, but probably not.

True, but the solution is fixing those laws, and reverting back to the constitution. As opposed to become weaker and more reliant on government to MAYBE save you from a violent threat.

Good luck fixing the way New York as a state runs though.

I'm happy I live in one of the last states to uphold the 2nd amendment (Arkansas). I feel sorry for all the people in blue states, because they'll probably never get their freedoms back unless they move.

Well.. then she must not have been shot and everything is hunky-dorry since guns aren't allowed there. Thank god for the politicians who protect us.

Gun control doesn't work. It literally only creates situations like this where criminals shoot down innocent people.

Prison > Dead. Illegal concealed carry is a misdemeanor, even in commie states like CA.

Honestly, they should move to a different state. I'm lucky to be in one of the last states the still recognize the 2nd amendment (Arkansas).

Let police handle it > answering questions from police

Not to be pedantic but to be perfectly pedantic, there’s five counties in NYC. She was in Kings County (Brooklyn). But you’re right otherwise as I’m sure they all have similar/same gun laws.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Oops, that was a simple mistake. I'll change "county" to "counties". (They all have the same gun laws.)

Cool, yeah, figured. Don't know the specific gun laws but figured.

    Uhhhhhhh...terrible advice.

Thanks, I’ll just call the police instead of them wanting to talk to me.

I would like to hear Eric Adams plans for "cracking down on the scourge of illegal guns" and it better not involve using the police!

I wonder if he personally will go out onto the streets an demanding people he suspects of carry a gun to "Hand it over!" I'm sure that will go down well... I mean this poor lady took 8 rounds over fireworks so Eric should be fine!

I'm so puzzled how bad ideas seam to take root so easily these days. How has critical thinking been so utterly destroyed? (rhetorical question) People are not calling 911 because they feel safe and can handle the problems the community is having, they are calling 911 because they know people are armed an will shoot you over complete nonsense...

If you are willing to pull the trigger not One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven but Eight times over a dispute about fireworks there are some major underlying problems going on here. Your not going to reason with anyone who is capable of doing something like this. Your only hope here is applying a greater force to them, then they can apply to you.

As far as getting rid is the illegal guns, that is 100% impossible. Zero chance of that ever happening. It's too late, there are too many guns, and to many avenues for getting new ones.

Adams did not back off his advice when addressing Walls’ death in a statement, instead calling for more action to be taken against “illegal guns.”

    Interesting.

Almost like the guns just fired themselves at this poor woman.

He didn't even touch on the fact that a person killed her, and would have done so if the gun was legal too.

It's the MINDSET and CULTURE that causes this, not the guns.

This person thought it was a okay to shoot someone over her protesting their unsafe antics.

But Adam refuses to address this.

    God this pisses me off.

The victim, 33-year-old Shatavia Walls, was just following the advice of Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams

“Stopping fireworks cannot turn into fireworks between the police and the community,” Adams said on June 21. “We want a good community response to dealing with a nuisance. … This is a nonviolent act. So those three numbers that we all dial, 911, get over that.”

Yeah, firing projectiles at people is not a non-violent act. In addition, you have no idea how these ...youths...are going to react, nor their parents. Finally, as a private citizen, you have neither the authority nor the responsibility to police anyone. That is what cops are paid to do.

While I feel bad for this woman and her family, why did she try to police people setting off fireworks again after getting shot at before? I wouldn't care what anyone had advised, if I got shot at I would never try that shit again. Not sure if she was ballsy or just stupid.

It's New York, so probably a massive sense of entitlement and a sense that she has all authority to tell people what to do.

The cops wouldn't deal with it. So people should just lie down and submit to bad actors? IMO that's how society REALLY goes down the tubes.

Headline: "Tries to settle dispute without police."

    Actual article:

Walls reported the alleged gunman to New York police, though nothing was done, according to Testagros. The New York City Police Department disputed the claim, saying they did not hear about the incident involving Walls and a gunman until July 7, when the same suspect allegedly shot Walls eight times after she confronted another group of people setting off fireworks in the neighborhood. Walls later died at a nearby hospital.

She worked with the police. The police just did what they often fucking do, which is jack shit.

    [–]beermeem 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

She didn’t call police about the illegal fireworks.

What are the cops going to do about someone getting shot at in a bad part of Brooklyn?

    [–]voi_che_sapete 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No, she called them about something much more serious, which was an illegal gunman.

    [–]beermeem 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    ...in Chicago...

Liberals make laws. That doesn't mean cops have time to enforce them. There's many facets and layers to the legal system.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)
