Yeah, I've seen that perspective before. I've read all the passages; I've gone back to the original Greek and Hebrew and tried to puzzle it through myself.

It's one of those things where they all just had a different view of sexuality than we did. Like, they had no concept of "homosexuality" at all. No one thought human beings had a "sexual orientation" until about the year 1800. A man was just a man. He was expected to have a wife and children, and to be a provider to his children. If you met that standard, people of the time didn't really care if you occasionally fucked other men.

Did the early Christians care at all? It's just not very clear. The guy's right: there are 4 verses in the Bible that might sort of brush up on the subject, out of 31,102 total. And those 4 verses don't say "don't be homosexual" - because of course they don't - because no one had a concept of "being homosexual."

In 1 Corinthians 7:8-9, Paul makes his stance clear: human beings should not have sex. They should not marry; they should not lust. They should remain single and chaste and pure. Anything else is falling short of what God wants for us.

Yeah.

I haven't gone through it myself, and I don't read Greek or Hebrew, but that's pretty much how Dan explains it to Dan in their Adam and Steve episode.
