"adopts hilarious Asian accent"? Why do you assume that's not how he actually talks?

Because there are plenty of videos on his channel showing how he actually talks. He's not the first one to adopt a character like that to make everything funnier either

Oh okay. Thanks for the info. Title kind of ruins it though, it's funnier if it seems real imo

If we don't know, we're just laughing at a funny man. If we do know, we're laughing at a manufactured stereotype. That's how it looks to my mind.

I can see what you mean though.

Hold the phone, that's not gatekeeping. Firstly, we aren't talking about criteria for group membership, but more importantly a lot of what he says is correct. You don't scrape a non-stick pan with metal utensils. You wash your rice beforehand so the surface starch doesn't cook with and bake onto your rice. If you've ever had rice that was too sticky and chewy, it was because it wasn't washed correctly (or possibly at all).

I've had plenty of rice that was cooked the wrong way. Too much water and prepared on a pot like this, not enough water, not washed, not washed enough. If I can serve two versions of a dish and an overwhelming majority go for one over the other, that's the correct one. The rice in the video would not be the winner at any egg fried rice competition.

That's true. I thought was funny because I recently learned how to cook rice and he's absolutely right about not being able to recover watery rice. And who rinses their rice in cold water after cooking?! Like he said, it's not pasta! haha.

Then just his persona and accent made it seem like he's a guy who would know a lot about cooking rice, because he's actually from asia. And I would say it's true the average Asian person knows how to cook rice whereas the average American doesn't. While the reverse is probably true of pasta. Which is what makes the whole way she cooks the rice even funnier.

As dumb as it sounds, I just feel slightly cheated that the accent is fake... I just wanted the persona to be real because it makes the joke funnier and more authentic instead of being manufactured. I get tired of manufactured realities, I want something real for once, you know? I think that's the core of it for me. Anyway, enough dissecting this frog...
