And he'll continue being an impotent little bitch who does absolutely nothing about it.

Seriously, this should tell you where he really stands.

I'm convinced he doesn't even want to win reelection at this point.

The fact that Dems are trodding out a mentally retarded pedophile who says shit that would make your grandma cringe should tell you that the whole thing is a farce. Left vs right doesn't matter. We keep playing the game either way.

The man can barely put one sentence together at this point. Best evidence of how rotten the system is.

My retarded pedophile is totally gonna win the debate against your retarded pedophile!

There's not much he can do about it. Twitter is a private platform that can set their own standards. Also, forcing them to keep it up would be a blatant 1st Amendment violation. Part of free speech includes the right not to speak.

I've heard the arguments that Twitter should be considered a public utility, but I don't think you can make a convincing case. The Fediverse is a viable and growing alternative to Twitter. So is Gab, and Parler.

So what exactly do you think he's supposed to do about it?

Twitter is not private though they claim to be.

In-Q-Tel, the tech wing of the CIA, among other government fronts are heavily invested in and control all the "mainstream" centralized platforms (Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Wikipedia, etc). Taxpayer dollars have gone into these giants and therefor if fairness and justice prevailed, we'd have some democratic say in the matter. Of course we know the corporatocracy is completely corrupt and 2020 has illustrated their desperate measures to maintain full spectrum dominance.

There is a reason why they never talk about any other sites in the MSM - because the corporatocracy doesn't fully control nor wish to promote them.

I am in support of the Fediverse (and to /s/DecentralizeAllThings), though I have yet to actually embrace it. (SaidIt is now federated.) I'm not a fan of the Mastodon thing because I haven't had use for it nor bothered to learn it. Maybe there's a way for SaidIt to incorporate it like the chat somehow.

Dude twitter is a publicly traded company. But hey, use the title font instead of the bold font and maybe if you wish for it really hard you can override facts you don't like.

[–]JasonCarswell 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I should have been clearer - all those platforms have been heavily funded in part by the public. Those are the facts.

The private platform thing is ridiculous though when money is monopolized, A few weeks ago a patreon competitor called newproject2 had to shut down, its creator made the site to have a backup for his own patreon and also to offer a place for people who got banned from patreon but were not breaking any laws to go to process payments.

First the banks cancelled his payment processing for no reason and cited TOS violation as the reason.

So he found a new bank to do payments with and instead he was added to the MATCH list which is a global blacklist for financial crimes, we was unable to get a reason for why he was added and there is no way to get removed from this list.

So yeah good luck ever trying to start an alternative to these "private companies"

This is sad but profoundly important news. Has it been posted? This illustrates the stranglehold of the corporatocracy and their banksters.

It’s this recurring issue that leads me to believe that going after 230 is the wrong way to go. Ending or modifying 230 would be incredibly risky. If the protection for hosts goes away, the only people able to risk allowing user-generated content are those with the deepest pockets. Big social media will effectively be The Internet.

Tackling political posturing by banks and payment processors seems a better way to go. People should not be denied banking and other financial services when doing nothing illegal, and these businesses are not being asked to host or endorse content.

"There's not much he can do about it."

Step 1 - Open an account on Gab.

Step 2 - Post on Twitter to his 83 million followers "Too much political censorship on Twitter. From now on I will be posting on gab.com/donaldtrump, follow me there."

Step 3 - The rest of the Republicans follow suit.

Step 4 - Tens of millions of conservatives open Gab accounts and stop using Twitter. Daily Active Users (DAU) plummet.

Step 5 - Twitter stock drops 40% within 1 month.

Step 6 - Jack Dorsey and all top executives responsible for cancel culture are fired by shareholders.

Step 7 - New CEO is appointed, declares Twitter will be a 1st amendment platform, all legal content will be allowed.

Look, I hate Twitter and would love to see them fail because they let their woke politics get in the way of running the site, but that scenario wouldn't play out the way you think it would.

If Trump declared a switch to Gab, and people followed there, Gab would completely crash from the overwhelming traffic, and more importantly Gab couldn't do anything to fix it in time. Their site runs a derivative of Mastodon, which cannot scale to meet the demands of a site anywhere near the size of Twitter. It's not something they could fix with more servers, either; the codebase just can't handle the insane amounts of users that would occupy a site anywhere near the size of Twitter.

So then Trump would have announced his move to a new site which is now unusable, and he can't connect with his followers as a result. His options now are to go back to Twitter "temporarily" where's he's now lost face because he said he was leaving prematurely, or be unable to communicate with his followers while he waits for Gab to try to build a new site that can actually scale, which would take them months.

Put simply, the scenario you've laid out would be a disaster.

If true it's time for Gab and the federation to hope for the best, prepare for the worst and have a scale up contingency plan.

[–]Nightjar 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Even if Gab crashed, all the headlines would still be "Trump leaves Twitter and moves to Gab. Millions of followers leaving Twitter for Gab are crashing site." This headline would still cause Twitter's stock to collapse and result in the firing of Dorsey within a few days. The new temporary CEO would reach out to Trump saying they will stop censoring politicians, and Trump could come back to Twitter in a few days.
