this is all dandy until a tyrant op comes around and starts deleting and banning like crazy (eg: u/snow, u/critias). in which case it is best if the sub mod works on the situation, rather than waiting for the admins to intervene. this is from past experience and i am sure it will happen again. there will always be reckless people who will usurp even the slightest power. and we must keep the admins from being bogged down in drama and let them work on the site.

edit: you are just over your two-week time limit to be able to create a sub, so you can have your freedom even now to both post whatever you want and to be a mod over it

edit2:

re doing the inverse of what reddit is doing

again, this sounds good, but there is this quite substantial fact that saidit is running on reddit code..

i appreciate this post and getting called out, keep them coming. it does look scammy that it says 15k subscribed to a sub but there might zero or only a few posts. but we shan't edit the database and at least we never seeded the site with bot content or alts. and thanks for the kind words.

there has been some interest in bot policy lately. some needs to post to askSaidIt "what should the bot policy be?"

there is no downvote here, but bots are posting links to saidit regularly. another factor is that people might want the ability to run comment bots, like an archive.org bot, or a video conversion bot. anyway we're open to improving this place.

ok, first let me say that if i look at /s/wallstreetbets and i see EXACTLY 15,000 readers, that does not look like users that got registered as readers just for being users... if that were the case, the number of readers shown would be an odd number like 9,624 but it would not be an exactly round number like 15,000.

i have some experience with trading(tho i always lost money, lol) and whenever someone would show a screenshot of their account and it began with EXACTLY $100,000.00 then it is probably probably probably a demo play money account... pretty much guaranteed.

so, when /s/wallstreetbets shows exactly 15,000 readers AND i only see about a half dozen posts and i only see six users online, then it is pretty much guaranteed that somehow someway those are fake readers shown on that page.

personally, i dont need to see ten other forums that show questionable reader numbers..

all respect.

all respect to you and this fine site, no disrespect intended, absolutely..

i am something of a professional at spotting flaws, lol, which is useless of course unless it is done with good intentions.

i want to describe my intent, kind sir or madam, and that is that i really enjoy reddit, except for one issue, i hate reddit.

i hate their bots, i hate reading posts and i have to wonder if i am interacting with some stupid python script or if it is a real person.. your site should incorporate features that make it impossible to use bots, but do not in any way inconvenience users.

i hate their downvotes, it silences me, groups can silence my posts and make them hidden, damm bullies.

i would enjoy consulting with your new company, i believe that i could help you to overtake the entire marketplace.

seriously.

We also have 'reset subscriptions' if anyone wants to start over with their subscriptions.

I agree with you re: exploring all opinions. I like this site specifically because I can engage with a variety of points of view without being pepper-sprayed with derision.

Some things you may have missed or misunderstood:

1) this is not my house and i am not a mod or an owner, just a user

2) there is no downvoting

3) there is a block user and a mute sub option (that are admittedly hard to find)

4) the PoD is here to keep discussion interesting/reasonable and not just a tar pit of name-calling

5) the other rules are in place to avoid breaking the laws where the server lives so the site doesn't get axed

6) most of your suggestions are already in place

7) moderators exist to maintain the Pyramid of Debate which is the model for conduct here

Your main complaint is about censorship--which is minimal here--yet you would like the power as OP to censor the voices you don't like.

Mods only remove posts that grossly violate the Pyramid of Debate. I doubt you would gain any insight reading those comments as they are typically just random slurs. People who harass and name call are given a wide berth before they are removed, which they are only when they persist relentlessly. Maybe you haven't found the block user button, the location of which I regularly forget. Maybe u/magnora7 or u/d3rr can point you to it.

Here is also a page you may have missed, as it also not very obvious: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/37r/welcome_to_saiditnet/ It explains the way the site works and details the PoD.

It's great that you care about free speech of all varieties. Thank you also for providing suggestions where you've seen room for improvement.

i am responding to both useless_aether and la_cues here:

there is no reason to think(my opinion, lol) of the OP as a "mini-mod" AND there is no need to also have a "real mod"..

if it were understood that the rules of this forum are that the OP has moderation priviliges over his threads, then that would become house rules.

i find it restricting when i am told what i cant read by the "real mod"...

i am going to quote user FormosaOolong from one of his previous posts in another thread:

"The control of information is the final step before totalitarian rule"..

obviously, this site is attempting to compete with reddit, this site is a reddit clone, lol.. so other than the look and feel, dont try to be reddit... do the inverse of what reddit is doing... allow free speech.. dont allow bots, but dont inconvenience users in the process..

it is not easy to be the best, in fact it is almost not possible.

[–]candyboxradio[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

after briefly reading your posting history, i see that you have an interest in the 5g issues and you also wrote "The control of information is the final step before totalitarian rule"..

to me, 5g seems to be dangerous, but if people get squelched by "moderators" then i am not able to read both/all sides of the story. i want to be able to read the good and the bad and the ugly and the insane opinions. i want it all. i would prefer to not read only those opinions that the moderator agrees with.

at reddit, there are issues with moderators that i dont like... for example, i enjoy reading about topics that i am not even interested in, but i am only able to read posts that have not been removed by that forum's moderators.

the rich are able to speak their message freely because they have the ability to pay for advertising.. i think that the average joe should have the same ability to speak freely and not be squelched by moderators, with the exception that if he is disruptive to a particular conversation.

personally, i think that alex jones is a tad insane, but i enjoy listening to him, so why does youtube block him? i have to listen to alexjones at http://banned.video omg.

if i start a thread, and alexjones is disruptive then i as the OP should have the ability to remove alexjones from my thread, but alexjones should have the ability to start his own threads freely.

yes, in most cases it is more than weird for me to visit someone else's house and immediately start advising them how to arrange their furniture, but saidit is not "your house"... a public forum really should not be operated as "your house", but instead it should be operated as a public forum where others may freely express themselves, with a few exceptions:

1) users should have the ability to block other users.. for example, i should have the ability to block alexjones, which means that i will not see his threads and he will not be able to respond to my threads(but he would be able to read my threads)..

if that rule is followed, why do we need a moderator that oversees the politics forum, for example? if that rule is followed, the forum would be self governing and all would be free to express themselves..

please understand that it is not my intent to tell you how to arrange the furniture in your house, but instead it is my intent to suggest to you how you can be better than reddit and how to be the best forum.

do you want to be a moderator or do you want to be the best forum in the world?

kind regards,

edward.

edit: i personally think that if my suggestions were implemented at this forum, you could invite people like alexjones here, and his viewers would follow him here, and your forum would blow up like a bomb. you see, i dont really give a fk if some moderator likes alexjones... i want to listen to alexjones if i want to listen to alexjones... with all respect, of course.

Most of the subs here are populated by lovely people who are able to disagree fruitfully. If you don't like the atmosphere in a particular sub, empower yourself to back away, mute that sub, and have a wander to the areas that suit you better.

Have you thought that it's a bit of a weird thing to be in someone else's house for just three days and immediately start talking about how you don't like their housekeeping?

then i would just stay at reddit, and deal with the downvoting... truth is that i am a veteran C programmer and so i know how to fake vote my own posts if they get downvoted, but i dont really want to deal with all of that, it is a bit childish..

if your thinking is that bullying is a good thing, then you should consider that war is simply bullying with guns and bombs, and if we continue arguing then we are headed for world war three.

the internet should be a safe space where people can discuss issues..

but instead what we now have is a bit like an antifa rally where the ones that throw the hardest punches win the debate.

best wishes.

i am so happy to hear that downvoting has been removed, this is definitely an improvement over reddit.

Not down with the censorship and banning. Bad idea.

i am not suggesting censorship at all, but i am suggesting that if i start a thread to discuss a particular topic that i should not get attacked by unwelcome commenters, they can destroy my ability to discuss some topic.

if i were to block a person from posting in a topic that i start as OP, they would always be able to start their own thread.. this is not censorship, but instead this prevents bullying.

if saidit is able to overcome these forum shortcomings, you then will have a chance to overtake reddit and lead the marketplace.

fk reddit.

TOR was never safe anyway. I suspect it may be a trap too. It was initially developed by the Navy. Who knows how many entrance and exit nodes they control.

Click bait title as always from Chipit the known shill.

The study was conducted exclusively along the portrail of low status groups. It's says nothing about broad liberal views on censorship.

It's a study about a well known fact.

If you're a SJW then you generally support SJW issues, and would like less coverage that discredits your expressed general position.

Nobody likes info that conflicts with their world view.

Everybody would prefer to see evidence that supports their world view.

Please let me know if a population exists that this inherent fact does not apply to.

More low-brow research from the folks that send Chipit material to post.

The abstract and "results" couldn't be less objective.

Recent work has suggested that Liberals have sacred values about protecting low status groups and thus are particularly prone to bias against any information that portrays those groups unfavorably. In a preregistered study (n = 559), we tested whether Liberals would support more censorship of information that portrays low status groups unfavorably (that men evolved to be better leaders than women, that Islam is violent and incites terrorism, and that white people score higher on intelligence tests than black people) than similar information that portrays high status groups unfavorably (that women evolved to be better leaders than men, that Christianity is violent and incites terrorism, and that black people score higher on intelligence tests than white people). The results very clearly supported predictions. Liberals consistently displayed double standards in their censorship preferences such that they desired to censor information that portrays low status groups unfavorably more than information that portrays high status groups unfavorably. Moderates and Conservatives supported more similar levels of censorship regardless of whether the information was favorable toward relatively high or low status groups, but Conservatives did display a small preference for censoring Christian violence over Islamic violence. Exploratory analyses also revealed that Millennials might be slightly more in support of censorship than Generation X in general, but Baby Boomers’ censorship support generally fell between that of Generation X and Millennials.

I agree that SJWs are idiots.

However, this research is clickbait propaganda.

Update: Had a short workout but the woman in yoga pants was still not there. Today there were five people there so they are coming back.

Today the comedian who was my username namesake died, supposedly of...you guessed it. He was 70, known to be a heavy smoker, carouser, and single for life, he made no bones about his love for young girls. He was out clubbing with some just before he was hospitalized. Now will come a deluge of Corona BS since he is the first celebrity to die of plain old ordinary flu this year. Its sad and it is sad that he will be the poster senior for that alleged disease. Hey folks, don't you see? If you have lung damage and are 65+ and a heavy smoker, you can get pneumonia and die. Because pneumonia is what really kills most older people in the end. As one doctor I quoted on here said, and I paraphrase: yes, this is a pandemic. I know because I've seen thirty pandemics, one every year, since I became a doctor. One more question for saiditters: do you think 9/11 was an inside job involving some US citizens and some people from the ME? No, not Saudi, the other one. If so, why can't CoV-19 also be an inside job? Do you know why in N. Italy so many people are dying, because it seems they are? Because that area has the worst air pollution in Europe and a preponderance of old people. As another doctor I quoted said: CoV=19 is a spook. I don't know if he meant that as a pun.

Apologies Tom for going on like this in a message to you. Just like 9/11 it is going to take a few years for most people to get it but by then we'll all be on full-time lockdown and there will be nothing to do about it.

Now I gotta go to the GYM and spread viruses. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore. :)

Maybe that is his message to us: don't believe this stuff they're making me say.

That was my take on the situation. I never followed him, but saw a decent quality breakdown.

He claimed flat Earth was the most important discovery of his life. Even if that was true, you'd have to assume that it would be a gradual warming up to the F-Earth idea.

Flat Earth as a concept is crazier in scope than 9/11, and it's difficult to imagine digesting the scope of 9/11 in a few days.

Probably most of us feel at bit soul dead right about now but let's keep on keeping on.

Yeah, I thought the Covid was a hoax from the start, so I'm kind of pumped up about the fact that the narrative is in the process of unraveling.

Keep in mind: France and other countries didn't lockdown or self-quarantine like the US. The narrative may be hijacked to suggest the quarantine saved the world.

Covid is a hoax. ;-)

He also worked for Google and during the 153news Side Thorne fiasco he shilled the most overty PsyOp I think I've ever seen. The guy is a plant and his site a honeypot meant to migrate all the truth seekers to his site so that they could eventually memoryhole it all for good.

Then right after the mosque non-incident must have been when they got to him, as you said. They, I suppose, can make offers that few can refuse. Since then, he has seemed more and more soul dead, a shadow of his former self, at those few times I saw him. But I never watched him enough to know about his flat earth talk. He went "flat Earth" on video, and had a swastika drawn on his hand during his announcement. It seemed a bit forced and not at all legit. He also made claims about his real name, and why he went by his moniker.

It appeared his work was being suicided.

Max Igan is an enigma but he predicts the entire Internet will go down about Easter (April 7) and then come back in a new disinfected form. He also says some people will disappear during the downtime. No, I am not saying that will happen. Interestingly, Trump said in an interview that he hopes to have the panic under control by some time around "Easter." Easter and the time of year, has had so much symbolism around it for thousands of years or more, it boggles my easily-boggled mind.
