He’s said plenty about Islam in the past. He just won’t say anything these days, what with his and his wife’s failing health.

Opposite side of Pascal's Wager goes against this:

If you're right, and he's not saying anything due to wanting God's help, then you're mocking another believer in their time of need. God...doesn't exactly like that.

If you're wrong, and he's not saying anything due to planning for him and his wife to recant on their deathbed for God's glory, then when you end up in heaven he will be there due to the rules of the Bible, and then you will be forced to hug him and call him brother in heaven, or you will instantly be sent to burn in Hell for all eternity.

So, either way, the Punishment of Divinity will go on you. Hope eternal damnation is worth it because an atheist said mean things to you.

He’s not doing it because, as far as I can work out, he doesn’t want a lunatic to stab his wife or himself.

He’s said plenty about Islam in his books and in interviews in the past, he just doesn’t want to provoke the kinds of lunatics who would knife his family especially now as they are both frail.

Nothing to do with an afterlife.

Doesn't want to be attacked like Salman Rushdie. Unfortunately, like with him, they can serve their dishes cold.

Yeah you can see his whole demeanor change when the subject comes up. I think it's clear he doesn't want to talk about it for exactly that reason, doesn't want to deal with a bunch of crazy jihadis that think they can get divine rewards for killing the person who insulted their prophet.

All I'll say is that the atheists have an understanding of the physical world that you won't get from more religion lines of thinking and there is value in that perspective. Sometimes you need to think about things as they are materially and not get concerned with morality since there's lots of subjectivity and psychological games that go on with that.

Considering how successful Islam is as a religion and comparing it to evolutionary development is pretty smart I'd say, meek unaggressive religions don't really spread. An animal that aggressively mates and seizes resources will reproduce more and be evolutionarily advantaged. A religion that aggressively forces converts will be similar.

The beginning of the video is rather annoying. There's a bunch of clips alternating Dawkins and Joyce making it sound like a conversation, but it's incoherent because they're all out of order. The real conversation starts at one minute, and after that it's decent, though obviously there won't be much in the way of new information for anyone here.

Whoever edited that video needs a slap for that first minute montage.

Richard adding his voice will help bring this into the mainstream, so happy he's decided to stand up against this nonsense.
