You know things are bad when even Reddit is calling it ridiculous. Netflix made the mistake of going full Hotep, never go full Hotep

Could have been an interesting story about foreign rulers of a conquered land, and the interaction with the native Egyptian peoples. But they can’t see beyond skin colour. And it’s not like there’s a shortage of sub-Saharan African kingdoms, I believe South Africa is currently filming an epic Shaka mini-series.

Also, I’m not sure why the African-Americans are so keen to claim the Ptolemaic rulers as their own, they were brotherfuckers and sisterfuckers and were fairly mad and eventually lost Egypt to the Romans. Hardly the leading lights of Egyptian history.

Cleopatra. It’s the only Pharoah most people know.

Lol, you saw that too, huh? I thought about posting it here, but decided that the Entertainment sub was a better choice.

Oh, and from the article, this choice quote:

'It's possible she was an Egyptian' says one expert, while another adds: 'I remember my grandmother saying to me 'I don't care what they tell you in school, Cleopatra was black.''

Wouldn't be surprised learn that this grandmother had some ideas that would be right at home with hoteps.

And further down, at the end, another one:

'Cleopatra's heritage has been the subject of much academic debate, which has often been ignored by Hollywood. Now our series re-assesses this fascinating part of her story.'

Uh, no it hasn't been the subject of debate, or at least not by anyone who doesn't have a personal investment in rewriting factual history into race-driven fantasy. Her origin is pretty well established, has been for centuries, and the only "academics" who say otherwise are either hoteps themselves or their culture locust white lickspittles.

I suspect the junior reporter that they had crib the article from elsewhere knows painfully little about the subject and so is applying false equivalence to the arguments knowing that no one ever gets fired for placating angry race grifters, whereas it’s perilous to disagree with them even if they’re 120% wrong.

it's basically on the same level as "Stonehenge has been subject to academic debate, such as whether it was actually created by an all-wombxn coven that covered all of Europe and reproduced by cloning, until the Indo-Europeans arrived in 2000-1600 BC and forcibly introduced them to thick, throbbing PIV"

also this is dogma among a handful of academics (not ones with any knowledge of Europe, mind you)

Cleopatra the Macedonian-Greek Ptolemaic Queen of Egypt has been cast as black by Netflix and the Egyptians are not happy their history is being colonised by Americans.

I'm definitely looking forward to their Nero series where they cast Wesley Snipes as Nero.

Partly because I think he'd actually be pretty good for the role.

Wesley Snipes as a lunatic Roman emperor would be amazing, why has no one thought of this before?!

I think Kevin Hart would be better.

We Greeks, are not happy either. I am surprised though that Egyptians seem to be way more upset than us.Maybe because they are not fond of their entire nations blackwashin.Or maybe because not many Greeks are aware that some Afroamerican "scholars" teach Ancient Greeks were a mere bunch of uncivilized, useless barbarians that stole their entire civilization from the Black people of Egypt, which is a big,fat lie. Don't fault us for that,we were kind of busy with a certain slavic nation in the North which was trying to co-opt ancient Macedonia as their own.

Slavs? in the 6th century BC?

[–]MyLongestJourney 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Ever heard a communist guy named Tito, founder of Yugoslavia? Tito wanted to make a country out of smaller mostly Slavic countries. (Montengero,Serbia,Bosnia etc). In order to do that he had to make a certain group of those Slavs with really close ties to Bulgaria, believe they really did not have any ties to Bulgaria. So he came up with the idea to brainwash them into believing they were actually the decedents of ancient Macedonians and that the ancient Macedonians were never Greek.Well,he did not convince historians or the world, but he did manage to convince that group of people that although they spoke a Bulgarian dialect, had Slavic customs, folklore etc. they were the real Macedonians and that the Greeks occupied most of their previous country (Macedonia). This did not cause much trouble to us the Greeks when Yugoslavia was a unified country, but when communism fell,so did Yugoslavia. And then we had to deal with a small nation in the North who called themselves Macedonians, hated our guts, laid claim on a big chunk of Greek territory (most of the Macedonia Greek prefecture),co-opted our history, including Alexander the Great and everything he did etc. It was the reason Greece blocked their entrance to NATO for years,it was never about just a name,it was about a historically inaccurate racial and national identity which had became a threat to Greece itself.

PS.Bulgaria is pissed too with the fake Macedonians issue as well, because they see those people as a Bulgarian subgroup, which Tito managed to brainwash into believing they had nothing to do with Bulgaria.

the Greeks were so unfamiliar with the horse-riding Macedonians they thought they were centaurs

remember when they literally squawked about Rami Malek being cast as an Egyptian

and the funniest thing about hoteps is that they COMPLETELY avoid all the areas slaves in the Americas were raided from, all of which can provide assloads of stories--you got the Mandingo, Muslims starting a revolt in the middle of Brazil, Anansi/"Aunt Nancy," the flamboyant old cities of Timbuktu and Benin, literal voodoo traditions named for Congo and Angola where even local whites get mounted by (some of) the loa: instead they reject a literal continent of real stuff for watered-down Scientology or ripoffs from Stargate

instead, they only fantasize about the Moops, Egypt (both countries where you get red hair sprinkled in randomly), Nubia, and the Swahili countries on the precise opposite side of Africa (the newest crapola, of course, is that they're "ancestral Americans" who DIDN'T come across the Atlantic and were the true Natives, while the Indians were later Siberian immigrants)

history has to be completely railroaded into the needs of the 2020s USA, like The Woman King accidentally lionizing slavers: it's like describing Hammurabi as a Democrat or Republican

Why would you want them to make stories about a BBC porn star?

One historian asserts in the preview: 'I remember my grandmother saying to me: I don't care what they tell you in school, Cleopatra was black.'

So basically "historian uses grandma as an authoritative reference, rather than history books"
