Uh, no it hasn't been the subject of debate, or at least not by anyone who doesn't have a personal investment in rewriting factual history into race-driven fantasy.

I suspect the junior reporter that they had crib the article from elsewhere knows painfully little about the subject and so is applying false equivalence to the arguments knowing that no one ever gets fired for placating angry race grifters, whereas it’s perilous to disagree with them even if they’re 120% wrong.

it's basically on the same level as "Stonehenge has been subject to academic debate, such as whether it was actually created by an all-wombxn coven that covered all of Europe and reproduced by cloning, until the Indo-Europeans arrived in 2000-1600 BC and forcibly introduced them to thick, throbbing PIV"

also this is dogma among a handful of academics (not ones with any knowledge of Europe, mind you)
