I don't care if you "didn't choose" to find children attractive. What matters is that children cannot process sexual attractions or behaviours. Furthermore, children are not prepared for the legal and emotional consequences of sex and relationships. Small children can't even count past 100. They are mentally underdeveloped, which is why they depend on their parents just to live. Having sex with a child interferes with his or her development. This is why child molesters are rightfully seen as the lowest of the low, and why any adult who defiles a child should get the death penalty.

Yes, absolutely. It doesn't matter what a paedophile thinks, or feels.

The need to protect children from harm trumps anything someone might feel, or any urges they have.

I treat it the same way I treat gay virgins. If you're going on about how gay you are but you've never been laid you're about as gay as my neutered dog is a couch-sexual. Of course one can be actively gay and not be a sexual predator so it's comparing figs with hemlock.

The pedophile that doesn't act on his urges is only a pedophile in the hypothetical realm. Unless we want to go minority report on everyone's ass you aren't going to be able to tell them from Adam. Now once they start openly talking about such things in public you're right to be concerned as the person talking about their own urges to engage in criminal activity and how it shouldn't be stigmatized is not much better than say me talking about my murderous fantasies where I want to go and slaughter my enemies and bathe in their blood while screaming like a wild animal and how dare you suggest that I'm weird for openly talking about my desire for gratuitous violence!

There's a fair argument to be had for discretion in psychology, the murderous intent is unwanted and the person wants to talk about ways to cope with it, the sexual desire is unwanted and they want to talk about ways to cope with it. This is all fine and very different from normalization or legitimizing unhealthy criminal urges. We just run into the problem that the gay rights movement created from the beginning by using the brainless argument of "love is love" which creates the slippery slope since there's no limitation on such a shitty tautology. What is love? It is love. Whatever I say is love is love! Who are you to tell me that my love is bad love? Can you answer the questions of, what's wrong with me marrying a 5 year old? Some cultures that is fairly normal. Can you answer such a thing with a "love is love" tautalogical base? What about if I want to marry my sibling? What about if I want to marry three siblings. What if my kids want to marry each other in kindergarten? Love is love after all. We can't even begin to suggest that pedophiles can be treated when we go off the rails and consider it to be a normal healthy sexuality and not a mental illness.

I largely agree. We shouldn’t be in the business of prosecuting people for the thoughts in their head. However, much like the need to closely monitor paranoid schizophrenics to ensure that they take their medications, I think it’s entirely appropriate to monitor people who admit to being paedophiles so that they are not placed in positions of trust with children or vulnerable adults.

I would be highly suspicious of any self-admitted paedophile who attempts to take a position of trust, and consider that an escalation.

As far as whether it’s a sexuality or not, I think that that’s largely moot as children cannot consent. If they want to argue that it is innate, that’s fine, but it would be a naturalistic fallacy to then argue that just because it is innate it needs to be tolerated - and in my mind makes it even more necessary to identify and monitor those with those tendencies.

At the end of the day, this is one of those rare circumstances where “but what about the children” absolutely applies. Child protection must come first, it’s very sad if you are a paedo and had no choice in the matter, but society isn’t going to allow you pose a danger to children - no matter how much you promise to behave.

I will allow as to how pedo inclinations could be something that the person who has them has no choice about, an aberration in the brain chemistry or what-have-you.

But, and this is the absolutely critical caveat to what I said above, acting on those inclinations absolutely is a choice. And if you choose wrong, you should just go ahead and get in the fucking woodchipper already.

I absolutely agree. There's alot of things that I THINK about doing, but restrain myself from acting on (paedophilia is NOT one of those things I think about, or do, just for the record). That's called "self control" and it's an admirable personality trait.

If any other group were to say "my sexually is to rape a particular demographic of person and scar them for life and I can't help it" it wouldn't be entertained at all.

There is no other way to have sex with a child than to rape them. That's what these guys want to do. Even the word peadophile is a euphemism so people don't have to think about the fact these guys are fantasising about raping kids every day.
