There's minimal amount of people usually on mine, and then you'll see a thread about lgbtbbq parade, and all of a sudden it jumps to 60 upvotes, whereas most hover around 10-20 upvotes. My city is a conservative city in California, and you'd never know it from the comments there. Reddit is not reality. Social media in general is not.

I've always believed that if I was asking for people to tolerate/accept me as a gay man, then I should be willing to extend the same courtesies to others with whom I might seem to disagree. If I'm going to ask for freedom of expression, I should be willing to defend others' freedom of expression even though I might disagree with what they have to express.

I’m not. That subreddit is very milquetoast. The admins start with banning the more "edgy" subreddits to make it appear that they are stamping out extremism, so that normal people won’t realise that they are in danger. But I would be surprised if r/conservative is still up by the end of this year. Because so many normal subs have been banned already. It’s only a matter of when, not if.

Valid point, but the better way to deal with this is to not use incorrect pronouns for anyone, regardless of whatever respect or camaraderie you otherwise feel towards them. If for some reason you don't think you can use the proper (sex-based) pronoun, refer to them by their name instead.

Valid point, but even "refer to them by their name" doesn't work, since pronoun bullshit can boil down to "this person wants to choose their own nickname". Even calling them by their name won't work as a result because you didn't validate them by calling them all the awesome cool nicknames they decided they want.

    Do you have a source for that? Most of the large scale grooming situations I've read about have been men-girls, like Rochdale and Telford. In my personal life, I know soooo many women who were in relationships with adult men when they were teenagers. I know a small few men who as teenagers, were involved with older women. When I was a teenager it was so common it seemed quite normal, but as an older adult I see most if not all of those relationships as involving elements of grooming. Especially as most of the men as they got older, just kept going from relationship to relationship with girls of 16/17. I find it hard to imagine that most grooming scenarios are same sex, especially when most people are exclusively opposite sex attracted. I could see how it might be disproportionately likely for groomers to have same sex targets, but that the majority would still be overwhelmingly opposite sex.
