The difference is that members gradually get more voting power as they establish themselves (both for post and comment voting). This makes infiltration more difficult, but still allows everyone to participate.

Oh, once more regarding /u/Airbus320. Turns out I was just confusing him for /u/AirSeddit88. The latter's an actual contributor, the former just spams and has been here for only 3 months.

Now I see the difference. Airbus must have made a comment at some point that made an impression on me, but you wouldn't guess that by his last page of comments.
