Reddit’s system is naturally built to highlight online influencers; all posts are automatically submitted to a voting process: The most up-voted messages receive the most visibility.

Companies are able to promote top posts to a very targeted audience, directly on its front page

I guess not everyone understands this. Social media companies hire psychologists to design and tweak systems to promote engagement. Because they want to sell advertisement space. Because that's how they make money.

The advertisements on reddit are so blatant as well.

"Hey reddit, what's your go-to brand that you can always trust?"

60k upvotes with multiple medals and thousands of replies, front page immediately. Meanwhile some amateur artist tries to self promote and they're seen as sellouts/insincere. Just right now there's this ad made to look like a genuine post.

Ha so true. "You're promoting your own stuff? Dude stop spamming" even though you just mentioned it once. Meanwhile there are 5 mcdonalds-related posts on the front page

They're still far better than us on this front

At least Saidit is consistent. Reddit is not.

And define "better". What's the purpose of Saidit? What's the purpose of Reddit? *resists urge to weaponise LessWrong*

What's the purpose of Saidit?

It's like the meaning of life, it's up to the individual.

I'm here to shitpost with so well crafted posts that you can't distinguish them from a proper reply.

Comment is too meta. explodinghead.jpg

We're still growing. I believe we'll attract that target audience at some point.

[–]Wanga 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (19 children)

Which audience?

[–]HorseMeat[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (18 children)

The exhibitionists.

[–]Wanga 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (17 children)

Reddit may have "taken its first step against adult content", but Saidit already went full Tumblr.

[–]HorseMeat[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (16 children)

What does that mean? Tumblr is known for so much shit that you need to provide some examples.

[–]Wanga 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (15 children)

I mean a total ban on all adult content

[–]HorseMeat[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (13 children)

Oh! :/ That's an unfortunate decision to make. I can't believe we're already there. How come WPD 2.0 is exempt from this rule?

[–]Wanga 8 insightful - 5 fun8 insightful - 4 fun9 insightful - 5 fun -  (12 children)

People getting their heads chopped off is okay.

Good-looking female bodies are the real threat.

[–]HorseMeat[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

It's all very lopsided if you ask me. Is there an ongoing discussion about the adult content ban?

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Your government is at war with at least 8 countries and this surprises you?

Movies feature high body counts and no breasts and this surprises you?

If they made murder videos illegal maybe they would be banned too.

Maybe if they made child porn legal the porn wouldn't be banned.

Maybe if they made child porn legal they might actually be able to find the creeps.

We'll never know because you can't look.

Maybe if they made real news illegal maybe they would get away with their crimes better.

Oh wait, they're already trying to make "fake news" illegal...

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

No we banned porn, not "adult content"

[–]StalwartJames 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It used to have drawn lolita porn.

[–]NotYourGuyBuddy 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It reminds me of the South Park episode where the little girl was an ad

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

What else was banned from Reddit and is now on SaidIt?

Feel free to update: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/wiki/bannedfromreddit

[–]HorseMeat[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Done.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Awesome.

I'm not a Redditor. Maybe you know of others, too. There's a lot of new ones coming in hot and heavy. https://saidit.net/subs/new/

[–]HorseMeat[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Maybe make a post in a more visible area so people can contribute to the wiki.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

At the foot of every page are links. Under About is "wiki" (/s/SaidIt/wiki/) and on that first page is a welcome, then FAQ, then list of all the wikis, then User Wiki List including /s/SaidIt/wiki/BannedFromReddit.

[–]HorseMeat[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Question, do you pay attention to the footer on the websites you visit?

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Nope.

I've tried to get them to move that stuff to the top right, or put it under the submit buttons above chat.

[–]HorseMeat[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I guess the only option would be to start a thread to promote the existence of the wiki.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

If only there was a /s/OpenWikiTest/

[–]HorseMeat[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

If only. xD
