The current best practice isn't clearly the best since suicide rates are still high even after surgery,

Nope. For instance:

RESULTS: Transgender children showed no elevations in depression and slightly elevated anxiety relative to population averages. They did not differ from the control groups on depression symptoms and had only marginally higher anxiety symptoms. - https://brettcollins.ca/files/peds_Olson.pdf

Nevertheless, surgery reduces suicide attempts. It also reduces anxiety, depression, and symptoms of gender dysphoria and increases reported life satisfaction, happiness and quality of life.

No. It doesn't.

Ten to fifteen years after surgical reassignment, the suicide rate of those who had undergone sex-reassignment surgery rose to 20 times that of comparable peers.

For fuck's sake mate, I've been linking to peer reviewed science, performed by people looking for the truth through the best evidence.

Don't give me that heritage foundation bullshit. My IQ is bigger than my pants size.

[–]DeadWalks 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

A guy has a bad back. Psychiatrist says it's all in his head. Chiropractor says he needs to stretch. Surgeon recommends spinal decompression. GP says to take ibuprofen and fuck off. The gender reassignment advisor says he should cut off his penis. Peer review means shit when all science is vulnerable to bias.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's not peer review, it's being referred to the wrong specialist. (Or quack in the case of the chiropractor).

And the heritage foundation manipulate data to mislead people to support what they think jesus wants.

Ironic if you note who's referred to as "the deceiver" in their little Bible that they probably think they're following

[–]Questionable 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

So did I. But you ignored it to talk about yourself. And your pants for some reason.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32345113/

My IQ is bigger than my pants size.

So, saying that you are morbidly obese, roughly 450 pounds, you are telling me that your I.Q is higher than your pants size of 58?

Alright. Strange flex, but I will allow it.

https://wikidiff.com/moron/cretin

Congratulations! You are no dumber than a moron! Provided you are morbidly obese that is.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

So did I.

You did not. You linked to an opinion piece by the agenda given group that produced shit that is the opposite of what everyone else finds who studies the subject such as "A child does better if they have heterosexual parents compared to homosexual ones". And now this bullshit "Sex Reassignment Doesn’t Work. Here Is the Evidence."

What crap.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32345113/

Interesting enough abstract. I can't find the full paper for free. Note that it says:

  • Interpersonal microaggressions, made a unique, statistically significant contribution to lifetime suicide attempts and emotional neglect by family approached significance. School belonging, emotional neglect by family, and internalized self-stigma made a unique, statistically significant contribution to past 6-month suicidality.

Note that it doesn't say:

  • HRT and Surgery makes a significant contribution to lifetime suicide attempts

So this does not refute what I say above: Nevertheless, surgery reduces suicide attempts. It also reduces anxiety, depression, and symptoms of gender dysphoria and increases reported life satisfaction, happiness and quality of life, as uncovered by the meta-analysis linked.

Congratulations! You are no dumber than a moron!

Oh the irony.

The irony of using your own words against you while you choose to ignore the other links in this thread.

Sad.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I read the science based links.

Don't you wish you could say as much, even for your own links?

[–]jet199 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Nope. There's zero evidence for that.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've linked to the papers that demonstrate that, and are the evidence.

[–]jacques1102 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

So they're delusional then since they believe that the neovagina or neopenis they get is just like a real one when it really isn't.A inverted mutilated penis is nothing like a biological vagina and vice versa with a surgical penis.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, they don't think that. These are people who've had the surgery.

[–]jet199 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

So they aren't going to kill themselves if they don't have drugs and surgery then.

As the person you replied to said, most suicide happens 5-10 years after surgical transition, so it's all downhill for those kids if they continue on that path.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

most suicide happens 5-10 years after surgical transition

Source?

[–]Vulptex 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

Yeah, because they're children who haven't suffered puberty yet. Unfortunately that also makes it nearly impossible to diagnose gender dysphoria vs. confusion or social contagion or other causes.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

The results are consistent if you include adults. Here's a meta-analysis of 53 studies.

Note the results:

53 studies were included. Findings indicate reduced rates of suicide attempts, anxiety, depression, and symptoms of gender dysphoria along with higher levels of life satisfaction, happiness and QoL after gender-affirming surgery. Some studies reported that initial QoL improvements post gender-affirming surgery were not always enduring.

[–]jet199 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Those studies are all badly done. Most have a drop out rate of 30-50%. What do you think happens to those trans people who fall off the map? Also those who have surgery rely on their surgeon to keep cleaning and fixing the open wound they have. They have a justifed fear that if they give them a bad review the care they need to survive might be taken away.

[–]ActuallyNot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Most have a drop out rate of 30-50%.

That's not mentioned in the limitations section.

Did you just pull it out of your ass?

[–]Vulptex 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Some studies reported that initial QoL improvements post gender-affirming surgery were not always enduring.

And that would be correct. They get a glimmer of false hope, but the truth eventually sets in and they're completely out of options.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

some

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

So the other studies were wrong, and probably biased.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

I'm supposed to take your supposition as fact?

I don't. If you can't supply the evidence that the studies are wrong, or the studies showing the opposite result that are better controlled or larger sample size, then I can't take this supposition as evidence of anything other than that you're depressed about the world.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Well no kidding I'm depressed about the world. How on earth could you not be? The only way to get through it is by denial and blissful ignorance. Cognitive dissonance and toxic positivity are very useful in this regard. Neither of which are effective enough on me.

We hate "pessimists", but science has concluded that they're simply realists being honest with themselves.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

The studies are the best that we have, and all the work in the area points to the same conclusions.

It's pretty clear that we're doing this right. It's not impossible that evidence comes to light that changes our approach. But it's unlikely to get better without new technology.

It's not as bad for everyone.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It's not as bad for people who are something else, but due to not understanding gender dysphoria think they are transgender. Anyone who actually has this disease wouldn't wish it on anyone. And no, it's not because of "unacceptance".
