Yup, that is one large demographic of transitioners. Subgroups of transitioners that I feel like I see most often:

  • people on the spectrum (ASD), with ADHD or OCD, are more likely to identify as transgender, according to studies; they get an obsessive fixation on transitioning, and are told that "becoming your true self through transitioning will fix all your problems!"

  • people who have been through sexual violence; "mind-body disconnect" and alexithymia are relatively common reactions to sexual violence and "mind-body disconnect" is listed as one of the "signs" that you're transgender, so assault victims (who are often avoiding thinking about the traumatic event(s) they've been through) are like, "Oh, this symptom of mind-body disconnect must be because I am transgender"

  • people with a paraphilia-- AGP or AAP-- or who otherwise fetishize same-sex men and women

  • people who are LGB and have internalized or externalized pressure to "admit that you're a man in a woman's body" or "a woman in a man's body" (the old homophobic saying)

  • girls/women hating being a woman, having a period, etc.

  • people who are trying to jump on the trans hype train to cash in or obtain social status from trans identification (I honestly think this is the least common group)

edit: And to your point, I'm curious which of the groups is most likely to "get off being degraded, raped, beaten"-- just seems like having a past history of sexual violence before choosing to identify as transgender is such a common theme.

From what I can see, 'gay' FtMs seem to be paraphilic ones, since they're the ones who have convinced themselves that if they enjoy gay men as a fetish, they must be one too. Also they can't understand that some men are actually not attracted to women in any way shape or form, much like men who can't understand why some women aren't interested in men, period.

This is a helpful list to have on hand. I would propose one edit: “people with a paraphilia-- AGP or AAP-- or who otherwise fetishize lesbians and gays as a result of their consumption of hardcore or soft core pornography and/or erotica, often but not always or exclusively anime-based (e.g, sissy porn, lesbian porn, Yuri, and hentai for MtF and yaoi for FtM).” And although this isn’t exclusively for this category because I think this includes other paths to trans such as seeking to dissociate from their bodies due o sexual trauma or abuse, but both MtF and FtM seek out exclusively lesbians or gay men (or people who outwardly identify as such) as partners purposes of validating their transition in that they can feel reassured that they are being seen as the opposite sex, even when the belief that that the person they’re with is homosexual (or even bisexual) is downright ludicrous.

I stumbled upon a good example of the latter recently when doing a rare foray into FtM subreddits to learn and check on my understanding of some things (which could be the subject of its own post) but I was curious about discussions of preferred sexual activity by FtMs, particularly “gay FtMs” (aka straight girls) based on the constant posts in r/AGB and propaganda from hijacked gay media shaming gay men as shallow sex freaks for being exclusively attracted to male bodies and sex organs, and acting like gay men should be willing to stick their dicks in any hole and let anyone penetrate them with whatever phallic objects the other person wants. The short version of the story is that while sexual activity is obviously a frequent topic on r/agb (as it likewise is in appropriate gay men’s spaces generally and a lot of gay men’s spaces center around sexual activity between men), the FtMs are having very little sex and they overwhelmingly are not interested in anal sex, like less interested in it than women who don’t identify as men or gay men specifically. There was more discussion of dysphoria around their female genitalia and discussion of not wanting to involve it in sexual activity than there was affirmative discussion of how they like to have sex. What little sexual discussion happened was pretty much entirely focused on the issues and aversions of the FtM poster and not about active enjoyed sexual attraction to men (gay or generally). Discussion of male anatomy was limited to discussions of dysphoria, not active attraction.

So the “stick goes in hole” and “drawer full of dicks” pressure propaganda is unsurprisingly by and largely hypothetical in the FtM space based on my unscientific survey based on basic search terms you would expect to find in posts about sexual activity.

(which could be the subject of its own post)

I would be interested to hear!

Checks out, given that men (male people) are a lot more likely to have been given knowledge about how to have positive experiences during sex than women.

That just makes a lot of sense, because if we think about the numbers... (this may seem obvious but I'll break it down anyway)

  • A far large number of girls/women seem to be transitioning than boys/men, currently

  • I would guess that, all else held equal, a girl/woman is a lot more likely to transition for non-paraphilic reasons than a boy/man is. E.g. a girl struggling with puberty/sexual assault history vs. a boy struggling with puberty/sexual assault history.

  • Assuming that there are relatively equal numbers of paraphilic girl/woman transitioners as there are paraphilic boy/man transitioners, then the non-paraphilic transitioners will make up a much larger proportion of the FtM community relative to those in the MtF community.

So the conversations you see in FtM communities would be primarily driven by a different sub-demographic of transitioners, than the ones in MtF communities. There are certainly some straight boys who transition who aren't doing it for paraphilic reasons. For example, I saw a great article a while ago about a boy on the spectrum who was pressured to transition in part because he hated all the bullying his male peers were doing, and was told, "you're actually a girl if you don't like bullying/roughhousing."

Also I agree with your edit. I'm not sure if I could quite make a post about this that'd fit in the sub posting rules, but I might try at some point.
