They weren't "trying to figure out how to handle her," they were rejecting her. She was rejected from multiple care homes. "her roommate would perhaps perceived herself to be in danger" (sorry, I don't know how to format end quote)

She looked like a woman with a beard--did not get a double mastectomy and was under 5ft--but if she actually passed, this might be an issue. I'd like to say, "she's a woman, place her with a woman," but again, the patients had dementia and might actually think she was a man. In my opinion, she is a woman and has a right to be treated as such, but if her roommate perceives her as a man, that's a clash of rights. If the roommate were sound of mind, she could simply be told (or be able to tell for herself) that this bearded person is a woman. However, because of the fact that she has dementia, it's possible that she couldn't understand that and would be in constant fear. Studies should be done to see whether or not this is the case. There is also the fact that people with dementia deteriorate very quickly with no stimulation or company, so placing her with no roommate would be worse for her. It's a classic clash of rights. I can't come to a conclusion until I have more information.
