Because it's "clinical and medical and thus offensive!" or so I hear. But jokes on them, that's why I use it. My sexuality isn't an "identity", a choice, or a fashion statement. Maybe it IS a sexual disorder and I'm okay with that. I don't give two shits if it sounds "clinical", that's better than a patronizing term like "queer" or even "gay."

I don't understand why people think it sounds "clinical?" It is a fact. If a fact is clinical, then so be it, but that doesn't make reality anything else. I prefer homosexual to most other terms because homosexual is more objective and less able to be bastardized into something else like gay has

I am guessing, but probably because it was used in the DSM to suggest that it is a disorder. The DSM is, literally, a clinical manual.

I still prefer "homosexual" over "queer" because "queer" was not only originally intended to mean "other/strange/weird," but that is actually how "queer theory" believers use the word today. And that's bigoted and fucked up.

Where I live now - word "queer" is used either mockingly against gnc men or as a slur against feminine gay men.

And yet U.S. "queer theorists" claim it is "reclaimed". No, it is still being used in the exact same homophobic way, the whole way through. Sorry you hear it being used like that, that's messed up. That is how I heard it growing up.

Yeah, I don't get how people who aren't gay are the one's deciding tha queer has been reclaimed for homosexual men. It would be like whites and latinos in (idk when it was still widely used as a slur, the 70's?) saying the n word had been recaimed despite it still being used regularly to degrade people. These people cannot speak on our behalf and are 100% wrong

The Carlos Maza/Steven Crowder feud was the last straw for me on this issue. Maza wanted to say he was queer and that all LGB people are queer, but the second Crowder called him queer it was “hate speech.” (Yes, Crowder was intentionally being a juvenile jerk, but I do think he did it to point out the stupidity of Maza’s position.) If it’s not fine for other people to call you a “reclaimed” word, then the word isn’t neutral and you should bugger off.

Because something something maybe sort of kind of POSSIBLY people used the word "homosexual" to describe it in a bad light 50 years ago, therefore somehow it's inherently offensive in 2020. I have no fuckin' clue.
