I suspect this infographic is mainly for the "allies" that just want to be safe from the Rainbow Crusade and don't give a single shit and have zero awareness about LGB stuff. They won't question it, it will just be whatever covers their own arses.

But oh my, the choice of "same-sex marriage" over "gay marriage" is genuinely surprising given all the focus on "sex and genitalia don't matter".

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, this is a 2015 article, which explains the choice of "same-sex marriage" over the alternative. Still a mystery as to how "homosexual" is offensive though.

Because it's "clinical and medical and thus offensive!" or so I hear. But jokes on them, that's why I use it. My sexuality isn't an "identity", a choice, or a fashion statement. Maybe it IS a sexual disorder and I'm okay with that. I don't give two shits if it sounds "clinical", that's better than a patronizing term like "queer" or even "gay."

I don't understand why people think it sounds "clinical?" It is a fact. If a fact is clinical, then so be it, but that doesn't make reality anything else. I prefer homosexual to most other terms because homosexual is more objective and less able to be bastardized into something else like gay has

I am guessing, but probably because it was used in the DSM to suggest that it is a disorder. The DSM is, literally, a clinical manual.

I still prefer "homosexual" over "queer" because "queer" was not only originally intended to mean "other/strange/weird," but that is actually how "queer theory" believers use the word today. And that's bigoted and fucked up.

Where I live now - word "queer" is used either mockingly against gnc men or as a slur against feminine gay men.

[–]reluctant_commenter 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

And yet U.S. "queer theorists" claim it is "reclaimed". No, it is still being used in the exact same homophobic way, the whole way through. Sorry you hear it being used like that, that's messed up. That is how I heard it growing up.

Yeah, I don't get how people who aren't gay are the one's deciding tha queer has been reclaimed for homosexual men. It would be like whites and latinos in (idk when it was still widely used as a slur, the 70's?) saying the n word had been recaimed despite it still being used regularly to degrade people. These people cannot speak on our behalf and are 100% wrong

The Carlos Maza/Steven Crowder feud was the last straw for me on this issue. Maza wanted to say he was queer and that all LGB people are queer, but the second Crowder called him queer it was “hate speech.” (Yes, Crowder was intentionally being a juvenile jerk, but I do think he did it to point out the stupidity of Maza’s position.) If it’s not fine for other people to call you a “reclaimed” word, then the word isn’t neutral and you should bugger off.

Because something something maybe sort of kind of POSSIBLY people used the word "homosexual" to describe it in a bad light 50 years ago, therefore somehow it's inherently offensive in 2020. I have no fuckin' clue.

Instead of "biologically female use assigned at birth"

So shitty that such big LGBTQ+ organisations are so hateful towards intersex people.

Assigning at birth is a medical malpractice which no longer performed. I am victim of one, and it is extremely annoying to hear people using it and even more annoying when big organizations are promoting this bullshit.

[–]fuckupaddamsBisexual Terve 17 insightful - 4 fun17 insightful - 3 fun18 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

I wasn't assigned shit at birth, the doctor took a look at me and wrote down that I'm female and it must be correct since I seem to be on my period today.

Unfortunately... it does still happen. Operating on intersex infants cosmetically is still legal in many places, including "progressive" countries. In 2019 Iceland was going to pass a law to grant nonbinary people a "third sex option" on documents AND ban medical malpractice against intersex people. But the intersex rights part was dropped because they thought the bill wouldn't pass otherwise.

It's disgusting. I'm fortunate to have escaped that "treatment" myself, but that doesn't mean I can't see just how much LGBT+ "communities" blatantly hate intersex people & how offensive they can be to those who have suffered.

True, trans propaganda is othering us and promotes IGM, putting pressure on youth with DSD, including us into their debates and lying about us. Like that "trans and intersex" organization spent few millions on trans issues and for intersex people they have said "intersex people exist, so trans people are valid".

Their focus on apropriating intersex is making so many intersex fakers, spreads misinformation about us and hurt us in general by othering us as some abominations. Like this faker: /s/GCdebatesQT/comments/7aji/ - and it is not the only one, in Twitter there a lot of them and they are spreadingblies and BS about our conditions to "prove that trans are valid".

"If you don't know which pronouns to use when writing or chatting with someone, then ask them which pronouns they'd like you to use. If that's not possible, use the pronouns consistent with their appearance and gender expression (eg. name)." TRIGGERED. Also, who the fuck has EVER said "marriage for same-sex couples." We're really getting the worst of ALL worlds with this.

Also, when I'm writing or chatting with someone, the most common pronoun I am going to use is 'you'.

I'm surprised by the use of sexual orientation vs sexual preference. I guess they're not too far gone in Wokeville, USA.

Hot take: gay and lesbian people can use whatever terminology they please to talk about their own experience and their own community.

I agree with this. Even if it's offensive. If I wanna call myself the big bad f word, that's my business tbh

I'm not a fan of that, to be honest. The notion that some people are allowed to use certain words in a targeted fashion (in other words, to actually refer to particular people) but other people aren't allowed to use it even nominally,* is toxic to discourse.

What does a racial slur have to deal with saying the f word? They're not comparable. Also why tell me you don't agree with me calling myself (BLOCKED WORD BEEP BEEP THOUGHTCRIME ALERT UH OH) but then go on to say it's bad if people can't use certain words neutrally???

[–]mvmlego 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

What does a racial slur have to deal with saying the f word?

The principle encompasses slurs in general, and both of them are slurs.

tell me [why] you don't agree with me calling myself (BLOCKED WORD BEEP BEEP THOUGHTCRIME ALERT UH OH) but then go on to say it's bad if people can't use certain words neutrally???

I think there's an important distinction between targeted usage and nominative usage--but since the distinction is fundamentally intuitive to me, I'm struggling to explain it. I think it's analogous to how it would clearly be reasonable for somebody to feel offended by me saying to them "you are a moron", but it would clearly be unreasonable for them to feel insulted by me saying a sentence like "the word 'moron' has five letters".

During the 2017 gay marriage campaign in Australia I was deliberately using gay marriage when everyone else was using same-sex marriage just to piss off the homophobes masquerading as supporters. The same reason I refer to the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras by it's full name, instead of the new "inclusive" Sydney Mardi Gras that the woke use now.
