Why would I want an FTM's eggs that are filled with a high level of testosterone or an MTF's sperm filled with a ton of estrogen for my son/daughter? That can't be good for the baby. I swear there are going to be a lot of children with health problems in the near future because of this shit.

TRA: biology is complicated and fluid and there's more than chromosomes and 6th grade science and I bet you haven't even seen your own DNA are ovum even real

Also TRA: they don't inject my drugs in my nipple do they? fuck it, milk is milk, where's junior

I was always curious about pregnant ftms, is it really healthy for the baby?

I'm curious about this as well, and I'm not sure how much research exists on this, since FtM was, until recently, a very very rare phenomenon. I can't imagine it's without repercussions. The media loves to celebrate 'men giving birth', but it's really a massive social and biological experiment with unknown consequences.

Oh my gosh I just ranted on a pregnancy sub because they are trying to get us to use the more inclusive "ftp" first time parent instead of "ftm" first time mom. I am insulted as a first time mom. We can't even have our own terms on a pregnancy sub anymore. I got lots of sass in my replies. I don't go to trans subs talking about being a FTM because that would be confusing. They just didn't get it at all. sigh

horrifying isn't it, same thing happens on PCOS and endo subs.

Most FtM have to get rid of their entire reproductive system because of atrophy and cancer risks.

The answer is obvious.

Can't say for sure but I've heard from someone else who has looked into this more than I have that the testosterone can stick around in the eggs for a long time even after quitting testosterone which can cause health problems in baby girls.

If someone well versed in this wants to explain I'd love to hear it even if it's the opposite of what I'd heard. I have a hard time believing medication like that doesn't impact the development process at all though, especially considering testosterone can make women sterile in high doses and this isn't even natural testosterone.

I thought most of them were either pre-t, or stopped taking t while pregnant / trying to get pregnant. I imagine there would likely be a need for IVF too because of the effects of t on the body.

Most of the science on transgender stuff is very recent, and in some cases nonexistent.

MtF breastfeeding and FtM pregnancies are two of the things we have no longitudinal data on, so people are just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Ah, also puberty blocking! I nearly forgot about this little chestnut.

I think it's safe to say that it's dangerous and should be avoided. We're seriously playing God with all these hormonal replacement shit.

This idea that "we need a study to prove it's dangerous" is fucking pants-on-head backwards. We need overwhelming scientific census to claim it's safe before people should engage in this shit. It's not "we don't have evidence, so oh well flip a coin" it's "we don't have evidence, so don't do it."

in the uk, the nhs was first saying puberty blockers are fully reversible now they've quickly taken that down..

Isn’t that literally one of the theories about what causes lesbianism — exposure to high rates of testosterone in the womb?

[–]insta 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I vaguely remember there being research into the hormonal balance of a female's womb while their child is growing, and how that balance leads a child to be homosexual depending on the hormones and the sex of the baby.

I imagine researching the topic of "what causes people to be gay" to be a very controversial one and one probably hard to get funding for.

[–]No_ 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

As a gay person myself

I am curious

[–]SkinnyVanilla 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

While I am curious and would be interested in the answer, I worry that whatever the answer is would be used as a weapon against us somehow.

[–]deliciousdogfoodmy name isnt a puppyplay reference i swear 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It absolutely would. Honestly it's more likely to be used by the TRA's as "proof" we can overcome our bigoted genital fetishes moreso than the religious right nowadays, but they could also use it as some kind of proof that we're just fucked in the head.

[–]Lesbianese 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah, I've heard that before. Don't know how testosterone gels or shots would play into that, especially because the eggs are being exposed to testosterone before they're fertilized.

[–]GConly 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Excess testosterone would need to happen in fetal development to affect the kid sexual orientation and brain development.

Testosterone would probably not have a beneficial effect on egg quality. Ftm usually have epic cases of cystic ovaries because they dont ovulate properly, which meam actually getting an egg out in a usuable (ripe) state is near impossible.

I have PCOS (excessive testosterone) so I know a bit about how excess testosterone can fuck up ovaries.

[–]blackrainbow[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Scientists think hormones could be an important factor. This page on wikipedia lists some proofs, very interesting

[–]GConly 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes. If you dose female monkey and guinea pig fetuses with testosterone at the right time you get lesbian animals.
