I get nostalgic sometimes for a world of print media and no twitter. Platforms like twitter played a big part in creating people like this and encouraging them to express their opinions.

While you do have a point, be aware that the "gatekeeping" of the media just filters out of the stupid ones that aren't smart enough to cloak their intentions in fluffy intelligentsia language. Therefore, the TRA people will still be out there, but the more under-the-surface insidious stuff would all be concealed by a sense of erudition. You'd be amazed what people can get away with if they are presentable, speak with confidence, and charisma.
