I ended up on one of her Twitter posts, linked through here, and was horrified to see an actress from Orange Is The New Black had written her an "OMG JUST STAHHHP!" type of comment. I don't participate in Twitter, but I clicked on the thingy and was glad to see many fans were telling her off (many fans were backing her up too) and there was another blue checkmark person in the comments (like a celebrity hair stylist, I think) and he was defending the actress too. (I'm sorry I'm explaining this in the style of a toddler.)

Anyway, what I'm seeing is that people are saying basically "How can you look at JK Rowling's posts and see transphobia?" and the Anti-JK Rowling people are saying "Yes, on face value it looks benign, but it's actually riddled with TERF dogwhistles and secret innuendos that somehow code into being anti-trans. Of course a normie like you wouldn't understand it, so you just need to trust us experts. Why would we lie to you?"

So a lot of people are trusting blindly.

Let me try to find that link...

EDIT - Okay, it's this one. The actress is Beth Dover. If you read though her whole thread, you kind of start getting the vibe I'm talking about. People are determined to read things into JK Rowling's posts that aren't actually there.

"It's all about context, sweetie..."

They are making up things and putting words in her mouth because ....she is making sense.

They (TRAs and some trans ppl) have basically told many people not to read a word of what she wrote "because it is all transphobic". And these ppl are just sheeps bc many are blindly following this. Because they know if ppl, at least the ones who are on the fence about this (and they are many), and even their own allies and TRAs buddies, read her essay, they will actually agree with her. Many even admitted to this lol

People are like "omg jk's tweets are so transphobic" and when you ask where are the "transphobic" things, they won't be able to explain to you. "Her essay is literally vile, transphobic shit", ok but where?? And then they'll do the mental gymnastics and emotional blackmail

"Whatever you do, don't actually read her words. Just trust us" Nope, not a cult at all, folks. Nothing to see here

You forgot : "If you do we will disown you and you will have no friends left and you'll be an outcast"

Think I heard that somewhere. Oh yeah it was my friend's Jehovah Witness mother when she found out her daughter had a boyfriend.

And "undertones", they say it has "transphobic undertones". Imagine if LGB had only to worry for "homophobic undertones" instead for legislation that discriminates against us at the very least, and physical punishment endorsed by legislation and/or society at its worst (depending on the country you live in).

[–]materialrealityplz 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Or misogynist undertones... like. Lmao! No ones even needs to search for that, it's right in your damn face.

There are many trans people who do not consider what JKR said transphobic at all, but many celebrities were quick to dog pile on this. Rose of Dawn, for example, who is a prominent trans voice, released a video analyzing the situation and stated that JKR is not transphobic.

That's a great link, I hadn't heard Rose had made a video about this.
Blaire White also did, and in it she also mentions a couple of trans men standing by Rowling. In case you or anyone is interested : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyzZ3J6IG6s

Also, that's completely off topic, but can anyone tell me what is Rose's accent ? Irish ? I thought my English was "perfect" but I often have a very hard time understanding her. I can't seem to find info on Google.

I'm not British so my ears aren't as trained as someone from there, but to me Rose's accent sounds like she's originally from the north of England. Maybe from Yorkshire? Definitely doesn't sound Irish to me.

Yeah, I just looked it up and Yorkshire sounds about right. Thanks :)

The absolute nonsense they come up with.

One that gets repeated all the time is that her synonym is in honour of that of a creep who did gay conversion therapy or something .

I've seen elaborate posts on how she is a fascist because the goblins have long noses and gold so they are jews. And some gay or trans character is ugly and thats why she is a bigot.

Like so much bullshit and it keeps getting upvoted on reddit and all i can think is no wonder trump is president and noone is taking the climate change or the pandemic seriously. 80 % of people are just very stupid or ignorant by choice.

After JKR's tweet in December, for a long time Twitter had as a headline 'news' story (on their search/news page), a tweet (well, a tweet essay) that pointed how insidiously transphobic what JKR said was. It was up there for days, when usually stuff gets changed pretty fast. Twitter's trans agenda is definitely not helping.

it's actually riddled with TERF dogwhistles and secret innuendos

Just what are these "TERF dogwhistles" and "secret innuendos"? Do they ever get specific?

I can't deal with Twitter so I haven't been digging into it too much so if people do have valid proof/evidence I haven't seen it. But someone posted here a removeddit back-up of a thread from /r/trans today where the mods were going on a deletion spree of all comments that did not toe the party line. (I think the post here might have been removed? Can't find it anymore. But I managed to find the actual page from my browsing history.)

If you skim through it, there are several people asking basically "So what exactly did she say that was transphobic?" and no one can come up with a legit answer. One person was literally like... Hold on I want to quote it because it was so good:

https://www.removeddit.com/r/trans/comments/hqdrj1/jk_rowlings_handprints_are_defaced_with_red_paint/

This is in reply to someone saying "just watch this video uwu!"

I didn't watch it. I skipped through it and saw it was 100% someone else's opinions on how wrong she is. I don't CARE what someone else's interpretation of what she said is. I have eyes. I have ears. I have a brain. I am tasked with he responsibility to use my own senses and reason to decide what someone is actually saying based upon the words they actually said.

What I did do is read what she actually wrote, including her statement that she SUPPORTS gay and transgender rights. Yes, she stated tolerance for someone who chooses to not allow transgender people full rights--but that is being tolerant of ALL people's right to have their own opinions. Yes, she joked about the fact that someone was going so stupid as to make "people who menstruate" a new label to describe women.

Based upon her long history of advocating FOR gay/les/trans rights, and preaching tolerance for those specific groups--as well as tolerance to allow others to not accept those groups, I find her posts to be the opposite of how she is being portrayed.

If you are going to paint her as the devil, at least do your research first and see what she actually said.

I haven't read every single one of the comments, but if you feel up to the task, let me know if you find anything.

"So what exactly did she say that was transphobic?" and no one can come up with a legit answer.

That's exactly what I thought. Thank you!
