Holy shit they're already blasting news outlets for "deadnaming" when they report the "story"....these people are fucking bonkers.

And how are readers supposed to know who Elliot Page is and why he's in the news if they don't??

This deadnaming thing is nuts. The prohibition on it was supposed to be to protect trans people from abuse and being tracked down by hateful family etc. Ellen Page has a substantial body of work under that name.

I mean even Poppy Z Brite sticks with that name instead of Billy Martin for writing. Because they aren't completely deluded.

Also, the gender identity crowd think seem to think they are the first people who ever used different names to the ones given at birth. When people have been doing this for eons for various reasons. Archibald Leach became Cary Grant. Ralph Lifschitz became Ralph Lauren. The Bronte sisters published as Currer (Charlotte), Ellis (Emily) and Acton (Anne) Bell. And so on.

This is not new! What is new is thinking that by uttering the magic words "I am trans," a person's whole past is erased in a puff of woke and it's now a faux pas, indeed in some jurisdictions a criminal act, for anyone else to mention it and your previous name.

Thank you for picking up on my turn of the phrase! I was quite pleased when my super-fast touch-typing fingers came out with it.

And given how Hollywood works, it's not just unheard of, it's downright common there. People have to pick new, unique stage names if the SAG already has someone with their name.

Yes, that's how the actor David Tennant got his name. His actual name was already taken by another registered actor, so he decided he'd use as his surname the last name of the one Pet Shop Boys coz that was his fave band.

Please don't tell me Currer, Ellis and Acton are not brave transmen. I mean those are very transy names. Clearly not women /s

LOL. You've inspired me. Today I announce that I am a stunning and brave super-masc transman named Currer Acton Ellis Twainiac.

Then again, since my original user name was cribbed from the pen name used by Samuel Clemens, perhaps I was trans already??? Geez, who knows?
