I think this is a good thing. Being better able to communicate in emergencies or about emergencies is good, and radio can be a great way to alleviate loneliness, meet people, and just connect to something interesting and fun.

I have noticed this intense desire for the government to curate, select, and crack down on all forms of information and communication over the last 15 or so years, and it's getting out of control. I think loosening the tether a bit would be helpful.

My friend jokingly said we should invest in ham radios or carrier pigeons shortly after snowden released what our wonderful government is doing. Guess he was more serious than I thought.
