Sure, I'm there.

I can say basically whatever I want - but who am I even saying it to? If I Tweet, no one sees it or reacts. If I reply to a popular post, I'm just one of the thousand Tweets at the end that no one sees or reacts to. So I'm basically just typing bullshit into an endless void.

At least here, a few people will read what I type. And I'm not arbitrarily limited to 280 characters.

Yea. That is a great point,

[–]fschmidt 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

I totally agree. Twitter is for celebrities and their moronic followers. Twitter is useless for people with independent thinking.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

That does not make sense. Free speech platforms are all about independent thinking.

[–]fschmidt 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

You have free speech on a text editor on your computer. You can type in anything you want, but no one will see it. How useful is that?

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Twitter is as usefull as you make it. The potential is there for may millions to see it. But you have made zero effort to be an influencer and now blame Twitter for not making you an influencer. Kind of silly.

But even if your claim were true, what does that have to do with your original claim that it is not a place for independent thought?

Seems like you have an agenda.

[–]fschmidt 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Seems like you lack intelligence. You just didn't understand what I said.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

🤣 Then explain it.

[–]Mcheetah 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Free speech platforms are all about independent thinking.

How many free speech platforms are left in 2024? This site is the best you can get and even this isn't fully a "free speech" platform.

Twitter also isn't "as useful as you make it" when there are dozens of bots, admins, and other forces that will actively suppress your content. Same with YouTube. "The Algorithm" is bullshit. If you're not advertiser-friendly, your shit doesn't get seen. Period.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

Why don't you link up with people you know?

[–]Hematomato 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

I think I grew up with too much money or something. All the people I know are the kinds of people who only type bland shit about their kids and get horrified whenever anyone that says anything that isn't polite, civil, and center-left.

[–]fschmidt 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

It isn't just the people you know, it is all of modern culture. All modern scum (members of modern culture) are moronic snowflakes. To look for tolerable people, try a conservative Mennonite church or a mosque. But of course those people aren't on Twitter.

[–]Hematomato 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't tolerate the conservatives either. Irreverent, cynical, and apolitical, that's pretty much my bag.

[–]Mcheetah 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I somewhat agree with you, but the fault in your logic is condemning one cult while praising another. The conservatives are only tolerable now because they aren't in power, but as someone who lived through the 2000s, I remember how insufferable they used to be back in the Dubya years, as well. And whenever you mention shit like abortion or not being religious, the conservatives become just as tyrannical and anti-liberty as the woke Progressives. BOTH sides want to control you, what you're allowed to do, what you're allowed to say, what you're allowed to think, etc. And BOTH sides are morally self-righteous hypocrites (again, just bring up abortion to conservatives and watch them lose their shit.)

That's why when you join their club, it comes with a set of beliefs you MUST adhere to and any deviation from them gets you kicked out of the club. Although the left is more strict, the right has their own set of hard rules you must follow as well (marriage, children, subservience to your wife, Christianity, working a 9-to-5 slave job, hating all the same things they do, etc.) And I say all this as someone who's probably slightly more right-leaning than left, although I'm really neither.

You can't be a "free thinker" while also doing the same bullshit and rules as everyone else in your social circle. Reject cults.

[–]fschmidt 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Why do you think I am praising conservatives? I hate modern culture across the political spectrum.

As for cults, any group can be called a cult. My rule is that I only abide by social conventions of groups that I respect. So when I was in Japan, I abided by Japanese social conventions because I generally respect Japanese culture. And that doesn't make me less of a free thinker.

[–]Mcheetah 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree with all of that. Sorry for any misunderstandings.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

So rattle their feathers. That is how social change happens. Be as gentle as you can, but constantly remind them of the blatantly stupid things the media is pushing. Tax their cognitive dissonance. When you shake their trance they will react violently and spectacularly. Then you can guide them down to a more intelligent frame of mind.

[–]Hematomato 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I'm sensing that it's possible you might be quite a bit younger than I am.

[–]Canbot 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If you are old you should be more bold.

[–]Mcheetah 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Sounds like typical big-city Normie shit to me. You're from New York, Chicago, or San Diego or something, right?

[–]Hematomato 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Nah. I'm in Nevada.
