The corrupt angels who run this world. They aren't devils, but they don't care for us too much either ever since we developed the free will to go against them. If I had to guess they are the same entities as the gods found in every pagan pantheon, and the powers Jesus had to deal with.

    They can keep you in this world in the first place, so they can pretty much do anything to you. At least if they can say you deserve to be punished for something you did wrong, they can return it to you. And it's impossible to be perfect, so they have you for good unless Christ intervenes.

    I'm not sure myself how it's possible that they have control over us, but they do.
