"America" as we knew it is being intentionally dismantled. The systems in place were not providing sufficient control to the control freaks who prefer to rule rather than represent. They are in the process of eliminating representative government. The wealth being generated in the United States was a result of those very systems now being dismantled. So what you call "falling apart" is these systems failing, which is rapidly diminishing access to resources and destroying the social bonds people formed under that system. The sad part is that enough of the population believes the control freaks actually give a shit about them and are willing to support their own destruction. That is hard to watch.

I think centralized control is coming to an increasingly corrupt head. But I also think this opens up the field for people to put together stronger formal or informal personal groupings at the local level - whether that means social clubs, school boards, or just gatherings of neighbours - who realize that individuals leaning on each other for support are going to fare better than always looking to a government that will increasingly not be able to deliver.

Seems like we're just at an inflection point. Some more scotus decisions remanding authority from the federal government to states so that different people can live under different values systems would go a long way to making the country more sustainably cohesive.

America has been falling apart since the Cold War. Which has been accelerating since 1871, 1913, the 1940's, 1963 and 2001.
