He found a bad excuse to take use off

That's not it. It's a matter of domination by numbers. If every other post is from one large sub then it's dominating the front page.

I also hate it when people are lazy and only post in /s/conspiracy or /s/politics when their posts can easily fit in more specific topical subs.

Perhaps removing those subs from /s/All may be in order too, thus forcing folks to be more selective about where they post.

Of course a master list or few about categorized sub topics would be handy and worth promoting.

I think we're saying the same thing. But as I said, our official cause for removal was not stated in such straightforward terms. I would just appreciate the honesty

Actually I agree that that is a valid criticism of SaidIt, and of our sub in particular. On Reddit, we were used to being quarantined and being a smaller community (relative to the overall size of reddit) so people posted directly to the sub to get our takes on whatever was happening. People still do this as if that is the case, when posts probably belong elsewhere on saidit. We should be making a bigger effort to branch out into other subs (but would magnora even want that?)

Agreed.

In almost all of the subs I've created or moderated I've created lists of "Related Subs" to make people aware of some topics people may not know existed - and so they can know they have a place to post stuff.

I can't speak for M7 or anyone, but I would want that.

I think M7 and my political views are very very similar and not extremist unless you consider wanting less centralized and corrupt power (minarchist/voluntaryist) to be extremist. I believe he likes civil debates with unique views on things even more than I do. I like being exposed to new ideas but my patience wears out with endless debates, especially when it may be better to agree to disagree and recognize that many different views may simultaneously be valid.

Numbers.... These number games. Are you exhilarated by getting numbers ?

What is the point here ? You got two types of users:

  • Most users are only reading and reading "main" subs which has its implications by itself

  • "Hardcore"-users having "conversations" in not so mainstream-subs

So who do you wanna hurt by implementing something here ?

Nope. I'm interested in getting good info from many viewpoints and sources.

If /s/All is dominated by a sub or few then that's not as many as it could be.

I'm not sure if by "main" you mean the default subs you get when you sign up, with whatever new subscriptions anyone bothers to make. Or do you mean the /s/All subs?

What implications do you mean? I haven't thought much on this.

So who do you wanna hurt by implementing something here ?

I don't wish to hurt anyone, nor implement anything.

For one thing this is our community but not my site.

Thus far I've stated that I agree with the extant policy of keeping very popular subs off /s/All. I also recognize that not only would DAR be better if they extended beyond their bubble to post in other subs, but I think that the /s/All folks are missing out by not having interactions with the limited subs (not on /s/All) and private subs (for whatever reason).

Further, I've been talking with folks about it to see if we can find better solutions, both here on SaidIt and wherever else we branch out to, together or not.

You're seeking demons where there aren't any.

What have you got in mind?

Magnora has told us he just thinks the name is bad for the brand.

FTR, magnora literally said

I regularly see news items posted in the sub that have nothing to do with debating or alt-right, things that could easily be posted in /s/news instead. It seems there is an effort to make sure this site is framed as an alt-right site, by making sure this sub is on the front page regularly, and I don't want that for saidit because it undermines the quality of the website.

THIS

This is what I was saying. Your community may post in other topical subs without being sidelined. If you did that then your ideas would spread and the /s/DebateAltRight would be only about debating Alt-Right ideas. If the number of DAR posts went down because all the posts were distributed to other subs then those other posts as well as the DAR posts would still be voted on their merits. With the DAR posts being less frequent then they might have a fair chance to be on /s/All among all the other posts, including the topical stuff that formerly would have been inaccurately categorized as DAR.

TL;DR: Escape the DAR bubble and contribute to all the subs and maybe DAR can join /s/All.
