Pretty silly, but then CA is about to give slavery reparations to black people who weren't slaves, paid for by people who didn't own slaves, in a state that never had slavery.

At it's core, this is just media fueling clicks and making money. They love the Trump vs. Biden fight as it makes them a lot of money. This is more of the same. It's not "people" it's the media.

Good therapists are hard to mass produce. Medicine is a mix of art and science, and a good therapist has to be extremely good at both aspects. If one doesn't have a strong inner drive, no amount of money can replace it.

I'm happy to answer. Thank you for your question. I became interested in this conversation originally through feminism. I still view it primarily through that lens. But I diverge from postmodern feminsits. I believe that it is important to preserve masculine men and feminine women, and that those gender identities are natural to us.

I also became interested in the policy and psychological aspects of this topic originally through Jordan Peterson, when he came out against the anti-free speech laws implemented in Canada. I combined what I knew already with what he said, and from there I've done my own intense research.

In my opinion, this topic is severely un-researched, and not many outside of the medical establishment, and the transitioned community, have any knowledge of these definition changes, or how to interpret them.

These kind of language games are a common tactic in postmodern feminism. In fact, changing the meaning of words is justified in their theory, called, "Feminist Language Reform". Postmodernists believe that by changing the way we speak, we can change reality as well. I don't subscribe to that idea. I have also detailed this topic on my Reddit account:

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAMALiberalFeminist/comments/becw1a/postmodern_theory_of_language/

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAMALiberalFeminist/comments/benfty/refutation_to_the_postmodern_theory_of_language/

It was my knowledge of these tactics that gave me insight into this issue. It's the same strategy being used. This is the result of postmodernism infecting the medical establishment. It is absolutely my prediction that these definition changes will not stop here. I believe they will continue until they have removed the biological definitions of "man" and "woman" altogether.

This is not only important to me, but I believe it should be important to everyone, but we cannot act without information. It's an issue for advocacy. The medical transition of children needs to end.

I once took a half of a pill on the advice of a doctor, whom I consulted for being unable to work, and not being depressed, but feeling "emptied out" when I got to work, after somehing "seemed to break within me". But I made it clear I wasn't depressed, just without any drive or desire to accomplish things. Turns out it was a burn-out, not a depression.

Anyway, half a pill goes down and I start feeling like I want to peform acts of murder and violence. To make people BLEED and SUFFER. This is so contrary to my normal state that I immediately realized the pill did that to me. Needless to say I never used them again.

But having experienced this, I can say I am unsurprised when I read that all the mass-murderers of the last 20+ years had been using SSRIs.

They are most likely not useful at all, except as a means to profit.

A young woman I was treating had, at a critical moment, a dream in which she was given a golden scarab. While she was telling me this dream I sat with my back to the closed window. Suddenly I heard a noise behind me, like a gentle tapping. I turned round and saw a flying insect knocking against the window-pane from outside. I opened the window and caught the creature in the air as it flew in. It was the nearest analog to a golden scarab that one finds in our latitudes, a scarabaeid beetle, the common rose-chafer (Cetonia aurata), which contrary to its usual habits had evidently felt an urge to get into a dark room at this particular moment. I must admit that nothing like it ever happened to me before or since, and that the dream the patient has remained unique in my experience. – Jung (1973).

This is a great story. This makes me think, what if the 'patient' had said this to a psychiatrist? ie, had a described a story that sounds so rare that it sounds almost made up.

They might be name-called "delusional", depending on the empathy of the psychiatrist.

A significant amount of people who get cruelly name-called things like "paranoid delusional" are harmless friendly people discussing unusual events.

Discussing something unusual shouldn't be treated with an assumption of a flawed failed brain.

Abbie is just fine. Until the day she arrives at the psychiatrists office due to a prolonged period of depression and anxiety. It takes minutes up to an hour for Dr. Felix to transform Abbie...Po0o0o0o0F into Abbie-normal. Dr. Felix pulls out his trusty black bag of SSRI's and Benzodiazepines zzzzzzip. Lets see, Abbie take this pill for three months while paying attention to your state of mind and other bodily issues to see if this pill and its side effects works for you. Oh yeah, don't forget it could take several trial phases with different pills to find the perfect one for you. Don't worry the Pharmaceutical industry is spitting these SSRI's out like candy...we will find one for you even if it takes a year. sarcasm

I agree there a need to create a new way of dealing with individual mental health issues other than pills. I enjoy learning psychological information, reading studies and the such. Psychology has value yet, deep down inside me there is something not right or not on the spot with psychiatry. The treatment focuses on the patient containing or has an issue and the idea of society/culture is never to blame. Culture is not going to change for you, therefore you must be the problem. Or the doc cannot do anything about culture so why not you and I talk and eat some pills so we can get you acclimated to the culture that is contributing to you mental state of mind.

create a great day...

[–]Anticapitalist[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The point of these quotes is not denying anyone's suffering. If you say you feel depression/anxiety/etc we accept that.

It's psychiatry denying your suffering:

ie, their belief is your flawed brain is the source of your suffering, as if you're imagining it.

Antipsychiatry is about accepting people's suffering is real and has a wide variety of causes, which are mostly oppression (eg exploitation, and socially caused suffering) but occasionally someone will have some form of brain damage as the cause. (eg could have been born with it.)

If you were born different, that's fine because different != a disease.

Everyone is different!

Antipsychiatry is understanding that when psychiatrists "diagnose" you they can't prove anything is biologically wrong with you. Or right with you. They don't know- they don't do lab tests. They're just making up stuff via "checklists" of behaviors which they just made up.

(And which they judge via their subjective opinions.)

ie, people have very real mental conditions and psychiatrists don't know what the causation is. They just blame your brain (the "individual defect view.") In other words, psychiatrists just push pills endlessly and very cruel "mental illness" labels.

I know some one who is on antidepressants, but also pregnant now and her doctor has recommended to keep taking those pills nevertheless, though the leaflet of that medications warns to take it while pregnant - the baby will be born with several issues and damages if she continues taking these antidepressants (compareable with issues and damages of a heroin-baby). She refuses to even talk about that risk and justifies that with her "panic attacks" she allegedly suffers from. (In fact she is just dehydrated all the time, because she is drinking not enough water, but even though she admits not drinking enough, she claims that her "panic attacks" doesn't have anything to do with her not drinking enough water, she's getting dizzy and blacking out all the time because of "pure panic without any reason".) Now she won't hear that her baby could be in danger due to her taking those pills, because that would make her feeling uncomfortable. I am almost near to the thought that she might do this on purpose to make the baby sick. I can't come up with another explanation anymore. All I can say is that those pills are the greatest crap since the invention of all crap. Everyone I know who was given some of those was a self-lying coward.

There are mental pathologies not induced by dysfunctional social situations, and there are common-ish problems with the hardware.

Good to keep in mind. One danger is to normalize a persistent "agitator" in the social environment, such that individual failures is seen as a weakness of the individual rather than them as canaries in a coal mine. I respect people like the late R.D. Laing who explored both e.g. the parents and the "problem" child, rather than focus on one member.

There are mental pathologies not induced by dysfunctional social situations, and there are common-ish problems with the hardware. Anti-depressants are, imo, proscribed too frequently, though.

There is no physical test for so-called mental illness. Don't get me wrong, there are mental pathologies, but they are problems of the mind, not with the hardware (except in rare cases). Or more correctly, problems of the mind induced by dysfunctional social situations.

that's very troubling. i think it's important for people to become more comfortable talking about this sort of thing, but it's so disheartening, though not surprising, that it's being capitalized by these corporations. while i'm sure some people benefit from these medications, that would be a small subset compared to how many people are pushed to them. i was finally able to stop taking my anti-depressants about six months ago after taking them for ten years. i wish i had spent that time learning and practicing coping skills - and i'm not sure how much they ever helped anyway. fuck these companies.

The evidence that we need to examine concerns a statistically significant incidence: of suicide with diagnosed depressed individuals with no usage of antidepressants vs. incidence of suicide with diagnosed depressed individuals with out usage of antidepressants.

Depressed people took medicine

Or it was pushed on them by Doctors more interested in kickbacks than curing people. Humans have existed just fine for what-100 thousand+ years without these substances. Why are there so many taking them now?

The medicine made them more depressed

I'm not a doctor. I have no idea what these pills are doing to the people detailed in SSRIStories.net I'd like to see some unbiased professional studies.

The additional antidepressant induced depression caused them to commit suicide

I'd like to outline your argument, and have you agree or disagree with the outline, so I can understand your position.

  • Depressed people took medicine
  • The medicine made them more depressed
  • The additional antidepressant induced depression caused them to commit suicide

Is this your assertion?

Considering he made "Bowling for Columbine", he might be worth listening to. Almost every single school shooter has either been on these drugs or is coming off of them. To dismiss the connection is absurd.

Dr. Michael Moore concludes that antidepressants cause school shootings. Case closed.
This is horse shit.

The are a few other interesting mass shooting details that the media and"researchers" conveniently overlook.
It's worth considering the fact that mass shooters are overwhelming white men. Michael Moore is a high-risk individual.
Also, why aren't mass shooters labeled "terrorists"?
Doesn't take a genius to figure out that there is a narrative being constructed here.

Cutting edge science from the University of PsuedoPscientology.

RESULTS: Five articles were selected from an initial pool of 4,123 articles.

The fact that this statement is found in the results section of the paper hints at the quality of it's content. Cherry picking 5 articles to support the hypothesis. What about the 4,118 other articles? This Bush-science. "Global collapse ensues"

CONCLUSIONS: Antidepressant drug usage is associated with AD/dementia and this is particularly evident if usage begins before age 65. This association may arise due to confounding by depression or depression severity.

So depressed people have a higher rate of mental stress and mental health problems? Did they have to go through +4000 articles to tease out this revelation.

With this confirmation that an association exists, clarification of underlying etiologic pathways requires urgent attention..

Great work team hypotheses confirmed. Association = Causation...?

I've found it helpful in the past at times. It definitely depends a lot on the therapist, some are absolutely awful and probably do more damage than they prevent. However some are great. Usually the good ones end up just being sounding boards who ask the right questions, to make you discover things about yourself that you hadn't put together yet.

And this is all before considering medication, which is honestly a total crapshoot and can do serious harm.
