I hope to move to the coast. I'm tired of being landlocked.

Anyone read The Stars Are Legion? by writerlylesbian in Lesbians

[–]mangofruit 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I read it and absolutely hated it. I had such high hopes but there wasn't a single character I liked. Also maybe it was just the fact that the universe was obviously nothing like ours but I really didn't connect with any of the characters as lesbians because how can you really be a "lesbian society" when there are only other women? At that point it's just....a society entirely made up of women? It's not clear that the ships are part of the reproduction aspect either so the pregnancies are more of a random thing that just happens because even in this universe women must provide for the population. Honestly it all felt so contrived and pointless I skimmed through a fair bit of the middle, maybe if an actual lesbian had written the book it wouldn't have read so shittily but I definitely felt it was a weird straight lady fantasy.

Do you think this is the end for TL? by a_blue_bird in Lesbians

[–]mangofruit 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I was wondering why this forum only has two mods vs the 5 or 6 that TL had....

Also, where is this interview? It feels so hard to find things now as someone who was always more of a lurker than anything.

Wild by Cheryl Strayed I was reading it and it was the first point at which I realized I couldn't keep pretending to be bisexual and that I had to actually come out and deal with it. I don't know why since it obviously had nothing to do with sexuality.

I know AL has been around for nearly a decade, was it always run by men? by xAcidRainx in Lesbians

Yes. I kind of wish I had been enough of an involved reddit citizen to have been made a mod somewhere so I could get behind the scenes and see everything. Curse my dislike of most internet interactions.

Were they dating at that point or did they get together after both being mods? I honestly think it's weird that Freya is even still a mod there, I don't know if she ever comments or interacts.

You know, I would love it if we could get like a reunion episode of all these users and find out what they think of the way lesbian reddit has gone down. I feel like a majority of the users that are not still currently moderators have left lesbian reddit altogether, but it would be interesting to me to have all former AL, TL, LA and LU mods in one thread to express their true feelings about it all.

(I might have an internet drama problem but that's neither here nor there.)

Oh, I loved that drama. Watching everyone trying to cover up for Molly was fantastically awful.

Ah yes, ok, it was Molly with the drug issues. I still want to say it was Freya who did the ass coke just because I remember thinking at the time "wow, a shining example of trans issues" and I am 99 percent sure Molly is not trans. But, of course, it's been like 5 years since that happened and it was the internet, lol so who know if that recollection was correct.

edit to add: but also fuck Andy, she's a total psycho too and absolutely has repeatedly sold LA and her other mods down the river.

All I really remember is the creator realized she was bisexual, left and for a while everything was pretty copacetic but eventually there was some massive drama surrounding Freya(? I think) doing coke off a strippers ass and then a huge melt down over drug usage and Freya and Molly's relationship where both of them acted inappropriately as mods and got "probation" (which imo was the last real attempt by AL to have mods with any accountability or consequence).

Then there was a bunch of issues when Freya became head mod, with censorship and not having any kind of open moderation. The big split was when there had been drama for weeks over people being banned with no explanation and posts that talked about wanting less trans and bi issues and more lesbian focus being removed. That was when it started to be a thing that lesbians we're allowed to say they didn't want cock which obviously went on for years until their "new" phrasing saying that it's ok to not want a specific cock but you can't unilaterally say you don't want trans woman. Barf.

I think that's also when LA (and TL right? Which was solely for female lesbians but obviously no one needs our history) was created with the idea of a more general wlw focus, less trans talk and and more public/little moderation which then had a melt down because of mod drama and one of their mods being in an incestuous relationship with her twin sister, and then eventually they also stopped allowing user participation in moderation and now all their defining ideals are no longer in place and TL is obviously non-existent and the incest mod created a private sub which now also sucks because no one can actually say anything the moderators don't like and everyone acts like they're better than everyone in the public subs.

The End

A researcher has found that of the 16 moderators of Reddit's sub for lesbians, 11 of them were biologically male transwomen. The forum has now been closed down because too many women on there only wanted to date other biological women, and this was considered 'transphobic' by Happy_face_caller in Lesbians

[–]mangofruit 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's ActualLesbians, it's "16 active mods" not 16 total mods. In total 22 mods, including 1 automod and I guess 5 where the accounts have been nuked/everything deleted(probably alts tbh). If you look at the list of mods and this screenshot you can tell it's the same. Although if I remember my ancient AL history correctly either Freya or Molly (I think Molly) is a woman so I wouldn't take this as 100% accurate without doing the legwork myself. But that sounds really boring so it's likely accurate enough for the point it's making.

It's like they did such a good job of educating people that gender and sex are different things that most people identify their attraction based on sex, not gender. Wow, who could have imagined?

"The fact that most cis people would not consider trans people as potential dating partners is yet another serious risk factor for increased psychological and physical health problems among the trans population."

This is super messed up. Placing responsibility for other people's physical and mental health onto the shoulders of people they would like to date is so fucked.

Cancel culture can suck it. Such bullshit. I mean, I'm not really active on reddit, and will probably mostly lurk here too but I felt like I had to at least make an account and sub so I was reflected in the number count. Everyone is just so mad that women think things they disagree with, it's like their brains just short circuit to "censor her!" mode.

Oh man that sub was/is such a wreck. I never really posted much but watching them bully literally everyone who didn't follow their ideas 100% was rough. I knew if I spoke up they'd just target me so I only posted when they had throwaway days. It used to be fun but it just has gone down the shitter since they stopped letting people actually have Unapproved Thoughts.
