Seriously. The death of reason and science in our modern world filled with this level of technology and information is the most depressing thing. It does feel hopeless and I'm not someone who usually can just say reassuring platitudes, but at least we can all watch the world burn together.

Reason and science take a backseat to money and power, and have done for long before this. The world will literally be burning because of it. If they can’t use the science and reason to support their position of power, they use other means. Most countries are willing to completely destroy their environments if it means the humans in power benefit from the convenience of those choices within their own lifetimes.

That's weirdly what I see society going towards is to be reborn. I feel like it going to be awhile before anything gets better though. Everything is getting mixed together that there are so many issues running up against each other at this point. I'm curious to see what would a society that is reborn would look like and hopefully something good comes out of it. We can only be in the dark for so long until the light comes out.

It's going to get really bad before it gets better. I doubt we will live to see a better world. I am trying to hope though.

a lot of destruction is going to happen before humans can start from scratch again, but I guess thats what it takes for a society to be reborn.

i think the same thing. it's really shitty right now. this is one of those times we have to go thru crap to get to something better on the other side of it.

This attitude of canceling is what dogmatic religions and empire have been doing for centuries to keep the masses ignorant and the masses happily remain ignorant because most people really just want to live a peaceful ignorant life as long as their own needs are being met. I wish I was powerful enough to start a movement. The people who are powerful enough to do something are being shut down by people saying they are too rich and too white to know what struggling means https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53330105 which totally denies their efforts and hard work they put in get to where they are. But I am at least glad they are trying

There are many people claiming we need to return to religion etc to make meaning in our lives and that is LOOOOOOOOOOOL because religion not being meaningful in the modern society we live in now is what caused groups to need to split away and form dogmatic ideological identity groups. So basically, both sides are doing pointless things. We need to accept the world has changed and many roles are not so rigid as they used to be because of sheer advancement and just move on, which we can’t do if we can’t actually speak. That letter is fine. People need to calm the fuck down

I think the biggest problem is the failure of people to prioritize objectivity. In journalism, in their research, in the way they report research, etc. It’s not that science is not being conducted, it’s that it’s not rigorous. People are using “science” more than ever to argue points, but they are not accounting for their own biases, or even the accuracy of reporting, or who is funding research. It seems like the entire process, even research ethics committees, are not functioning the way they should. Journals are pulling studies at the behest of activists. Systems are being corrupted in favour of ideology, and ideology is being supported by capital.

Cancel culture can suck it. Such bullshit. I mean, I'm not really active on reddit, and will probably mostly lurk here too but I felt like I had to at least make an account and sub so I was reflected in the number count. Everyone is just so mad that women think things they disagree with, it's like their brains just short circuit to "censor her!" mode.

I feel the same way. :( I'm a horrible cynic who desperately wants to be wrong.
