Are we the majority yet? Or have the fringe beliefs become the majority? We're not even the fringe lol. A lot of GC was just..normal balanced viewpoints. And refugees from other communities that had gone Xtra woke. I felt the same about all the subs that allowed open discussion and differing ideas.

Out of curiosity what was the draw to fatpeoplehate? I went once looking for a more balanced view on the fatphobia thing, but it literally was a sub full of vile hatred on purpose lol. I don't like him but I don't fear him. I don't think he's smart enough to be pulling the strings with any of this. He's focused on his ego and getting his fill of praise.

So he's easily manipulated in that way but I'm not even gonna pretend I know what's actually going on in our government. We'll find out eventually...maybe. all I know is that corruption is everywhere and I literally don't trust anyone anymore haha

I was a lurker too. Think that was the first place I found some sane discussions but I had to search for a long time.

Unfortunately sticking around radfem spaces too much made me start thinking more extreme, and I try to stay kinda balanced and not spend hours online lol. For my own sanity and for the sake of remaining open to other opinions. So I hadn't been on in a while. I can't believe it got axed :/

After having PTSD myself I do understand the sort of hell they are going through, but the validation culture seems to be set up to trap them in that hell and a cycle of rumination that reinforces existing fears.

Same with overidentifying with mental disorders... the more you immerse yourself in that stuff, the more you think about it, the more you worry about it, the more your brain thinks it's vital to survival, the more obsessive you become.

I had debilitating body dysmorphia as a teen. At the time I was extremely suicidal over it and if I had the option to get surgery to look the way I wanted, I would have jumped at it. It would have been "life saving" in the same way that hormone therapy is considered life saving. I threatened and attempted suicide and was put in the psychiatric ward... which is what happens to most people who threaten suicide.

Would it have helped to get a tummy tuck and breast reduction at age 15? Who knows. Maybe. But in any case I had much, much deeper issues that needed to be addressed. And had I gained that weight back or still been uncomfortable with the way I looked post surgery, that suicidality would still be there.

It's not even a matter of opinion, but of ethics--putting kids in dangerous situations without proper assessment or giving them tools to cope. And yes, endless validation of all sorts of delusions. Validation is important, but it's the first step. Validation only therapy for someone with actual delusions would be mindblowingly harmful. At some point you have to move on to healing

Psychology background here, and what peaked me was the expectation that everyone be provided "validation" all the time. When sometimes the correct course of action to reduce stress and promote wellbeing is exposure therapy. Validate feelings first but then you HAVE to move to the next step.

No good friend should be validating your fears to the point that you can't grow. I'm stunned that this has become the norm and grateful that I missed the Tumblr mental illness/identity wave by an inch, or I'm sure I'd still be stuck overidentifying with my own phobias and body issues.

Over time the expectation of political correctness/wokeness creeped into a lot of different areas of life that I never would have expected, and it also grew to cover more and more ground until it got impossible to adhere to. It'll spread everywhere eventually unless there's pushback from the rational people who have been playing along with it or shutting up lol

I'm floored that subs like that were banned in the same wave as the subs that depicted violent acts. Couldn't even read through the full list because I did nottt want to know those existed

Like yeah yeah freedom of speech etc etc. It was just weird to see chill, normal right leaning subs on the same list as animal necrophilia subs and vore. And I'm sure there are worse out there that didn't get banned...
