I generally don't believe in censoring. So, IMO, laws against sexual content featuring minors should only exist to protect said minors from exploitation, from the consequences of being featured in circulating exploitative material etc. All that being said, this particular case is very questionable.. I don't care about pedos, I care about children being exploited, and this film looks beyond iffy. There are many ways to "comment on child exploitation" without committing it.

I moved here from Reddit, and I totally forgot what it was like to read threads on uncensored platforms. Thank you for adding that authentic shitposting imageboard vibe, that too many of us take for granted.

"Against Degenerate Subreddits" - Surpasses 20K subscribers on Reddit by WarmPotato in MeanwhileOnReddit

I thought I understood the issues on reddit, but this sub confuses me. Based on top posts and top comments, these guys are aiding in, and celebrating the banning of, (in order of most sensible to most hysterical):

Pedos/groomers, racism (but only against whites), misc. sexualization of children, zoophilia, various "degenerate" kinks incl. ageplay, bdsm, rapekink, "degratory" porn e.g. abuse-porn, things that are too woke (e.g. misandristic radfem stuff), antifa/political violence/enabling rioters in the US, safe-spaces for various kinds of offenders/convicted ppl and finally... adultery.

One post you'll find comments like "Make stoning adulterers great again!" (81 upvotes and explicitly stated to be unironic). But also "Join us over on www.ruqqus.com - It is a better platform free of censorship. What's the point of even staying on Reddit anymore?" (131 upvotes). And then they complain about the banning of GamersRiseUp and so forth.

I'm baffled. It's like they are slightly right-leaning on the political spectrum, a bit conservative, and then North Korea-level authoritarian about it. Unless they're the ones being banned.

Who is this sub for? Conservative chaotic-neutral coomers? Anyway it's repulsive. I may find a lot of things "degenerate", but I'm a libertarian above all else. I have no idea what the fuck those guys are, and I'm not sure they do either.

How does it damage trans-people to put them on a pedestal and make them inhumanity infallible? The only way I can think of is that some people will blame this on trans-people themselves, who didn't ask for any of this. Like a lot of people do with black people in the US..

I mean.. won't they find out how bad of an idea this is, eventually? When they've effectively alienated and ridiculed all the rich white old conservative (in the ideological sense of the word) boomers who run the country, to the point where they're like: "Fine, we'll go back to the blacks-only bathrooms and whatnot", then who do they think is gonna come out on top? The 14% of the country that classify as African Americas, who are still fighting against a disproportionate level of poverty and illiteracy due to having been comsidered slaves and second-class citizens for centuries?

I'm not even a feminist, and my peak-Reddit experiences have been so severe that I sympathise more with hardcore TERFs now, than I do with any mod on Reddit. That's how fucked up they are.

I never actually thought about just how damaging that design trait is. It's almost as if Reddit was specifically designed to align people's opinions, and punish wrongthink. >>Tinfoil hat intensifies, but also I'm kinda serious<<

That was my first impression as well. But thinking back on 4chan there was always a bunch of insane or racist comments you had to scroll through. I think Reddit just made me used to not encounter differing viewpoints or ramblings. It takes some re-adjustment to get back into ignoring the shitposting, but ultimately, I think the benefit of free speech by far outweighs the inconveniences. ...especially considering how little diversity is actually left on Reddit.

Yes, There Is Such a Thing as Cancel Culture. Incredibly, the Harper's letter spawned a bunch of people saying that there is no such thing as cancel culture. As Steven Pinker has argued, cancel culture has parallels with the Chinese cultural revolution and the European witch hunts. by Chipit in politics

I really like the topmost comment on the article:

"As to the ridiculous notion that Cancel Culture isn’t a problem, I am reminded of Jefferson (before he was canceled):

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

[...] The downstream effects of Cancel Culture are far more serious than its proponents, who cancel a history they never learned, can fathom."

There's a whole point to be made about the wokies acting as if it's not their moral responsibility to secure a de facto freedom of speech for their fellow citizens. What's that famous summary of Voltaire's philosophy again....?

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it - just say it somewhere else, where literally no one can hear you, and also we're gonna get you fired"?
