Finland, which has a history with Russia that colors the national psyche, joined NATO last year (https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_213448.htm). Finland shares the longest border with Russia, and it's being fortified (https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/finland-starts-fence-russian-border-amid-migration-security-concerns-2023-04-14/). We here at WotB will miss you one of these days. Because we care so much about what you care so much about caring about.

Isn't this fun? SO glad you dropped by with all those good words on Apr. 1 and stayed through Apr. 2.

Are whistleblower protections and legal counteractions available for members of the military?

Macie claimed that members of the U.S. military have experienced massive increases in heart-related issues, presenting Defense Department data showing the following:

  • 937% increase in heart failure

  • 152% increase in cardiomyopathy

  • 69% increase in ischemic heart disease

  • 36% increase in hypertensive disease

  • 63% increase in other forms of heart disease

[–]3andfro 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Those bulleted points:

If I were asked to boil down neoconservatism to its essential elements—that is, those that have remained consistent over the past nearly 50 years—I would cite the following:

  • a Manichean view of a world in which good and evil are constantly at war and the United States has an obligation to lead forces for good around the globe.

  • a belief in the moral exceptionalism of both the United States and Israel and the absolute moral necessity for the U.S. to defend Israel’s security.

  • a conviction that, in order to keep evil at bay, the United States must have—and be willing to exercise—the military power necessary to defeat any and all challengers. There’s a corollary: force is the only language that evil understands.

  • the 1930s—with Munich, appeasement, Chamberlain, Churchill—taught us everything we need to know about evil and how to fight it.

  • democracy is generally desirable, but it always depends on who wins.

Apologies to be back again, but I had to post this excerpt:

For those who are researchers, writers, academics, or just curious people who want to understand the world better – even improve it – to have one’s intellectual operating system so profoundly disturbed is an occasion of profound disorientation. It is also a time to embrace the adventure, recalibrate, and set about correcting and finding a new path.

When your ideological system and political allegiances fail to provide the explanatory power we are seeking, it is time to improve them or give them up entirely.

Not everyone is up to the task. Indeed, this is a major reason why so many want to forget about the past three and a half years. They would rather close their eyes to the new realities and default back to their intellectual comfort zones. [bold added]

I see this all around me IRL. I'm sure others here do, too. Part of me understands, but it's still frustrating and hazardous, to them and the rest of us.

Our understanding of COVID-19 vaccinations and their impact on health and mortality has evolved substantially since the first vaccine rollouts. Published reports from the original randomized phase 3 trials concluded that the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines could greatly reduce COVID-19 symptoms. In the interim, problems with the methods, execution, and reporting of these pivotal trials have emerged. Re-analysis of the Pfizer trial data identified statistically significant increases in serious adverse events (SAEs) in the vaccine group. Numerous SAEs were identified following the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), including death, cancer, cardiac events, and various autoimmune, hematological, reproductive, and neurological disorders. Furthermore, these products never underwent adequate safety and toxicological testing in accordance with previously established scientific standards. Among the other major topics addressed in this narrative review are the published analyses of serious harms to humans, quality control issues and process-related impurities, mechanisms underlying adverse events (AEs), the immunologic basis for vaccine inefficacy, and concerning mortality trends based on the registrational trial data. The risk-benefit imbalance substantiated by the evidence to date contraindicates further booster injections and suggests that, at a minimum, the mRNA injections should be removed from the childhood immunization program until proper safety and toxicological studies are conducted. Federal agency approval of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines on a blanket-coverage population-wide basis had no support from an honest assessment of all relevant registrational data and commensurate consideration of risks versus benefits. Given the extensive, well-documented SAEs and unacceptably high harm-to-reward ratio, we urge governments to endorse a global moratorium on the modified mRNA products until all relevant questions pertaining to causality, residual DNA, and aberrant protein production are answered.

Let us be plain: this trifecta of policies, rather than gel into a single doctrine, are falling like dominoes. Their collapse owes to one thing: The original decision to back Israel’s use of overwhelming violence across Gaza’s civil society – ostensibly to defeat Hamas. It has turned the region and much of the World against the U.S. and Europe.

How did this happen? Because nothing changed by way of U.S. policies. It was the same old western bromides from decades ago: financial threats, bombing and violence. And the insistence on one mandatory ‘stand with Israel’ narrative (with no discussion).

The rest of the world has grown tired of it; even defiant towards it.

This past year we saw a bitter strike between the UAW and the “Big 3” U.S. carmakers, which ended in significant increases in pay and benefits for workers. How will these companies that have plants in the U.S. and Canada be competitive with Chinese cars being made in Mexico?

Just this week, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, said during the company’s quarterly earnings call that “if there are not trade barriers established, Chinese EV companies will pretty much demolish most other car companies in the world.”

How will politicians in the U.S., Canada and Mexico respond? Will the U.S. consider breaking or modifying the USMCA free trade agreement to raise tariffs on Chinese cars made in Mexico to protect American and Canadian UAW jobs? Will the U.S. and Canada allow Chinese cars made in Mexico to enter duty-free? Will Mexico somehow try to find a path to cater to both Chinese auto companies and U.S./Canadian politicians?

A 2017 report by the peer-reviewed journal The BMJ also showed that about half of medical journal editors receive payments from drug companies, with the average payment per editor hovering around $28,000. But these statistics are only accurate if researchers and editors are transparent about payments from pharma. And a 2022 investigative analysis of two of the most influential medical journals found that 81% of study authors failed to disclose millions in payments from drug companies, as they’re required to do. The FDA knew, so why wouldn't CDC? The excerpt below is from the FDA:

The FDA conducted a rigorous evaluation of the post-authorization safety surveillance data pertaining to myocarditis and pericarditis following administration of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine and determined that the data demonstrate increased risks, particularly within the seven days following the second dose. The observed risk is higher among males under 40 years of age compared to females and older males. The observed risk is highest in males 12 through 17 years of age. Available data from short-term follow-up suggest that most individuals have had resolution of symptoms. However, some individuals required intensive care support. Information is not yet available about potential long-term health outcomes. https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/qa-comirnaty-covid-19-vaccine-mrna

RINOs in Denial Over Donald Trump While Democrats Are Flailing by chakokat in WayOfTheBern

Read the whole thing for some entertaining word-spinning. Excerpt:

Donald Trump enjoys one major advantage over Nikki and Ron — his foibles, his weaknesses and his failures are widely known. There is no new dirt on him. Nine years of excavation and fabrication have turned up nothing. If anything, the relentless persecution of Trump has made his more popular with the middle and working class.

The same cannot be said for Nikki or Ron. Neither has been subjected to the vivisection that Trump has endured since he first declared for President in 2015. The frantic, desperate efforts by the Clinton and Obama sycophants to paint Trump as a racist, Jew hating, Commie lover have failed. Trump is still very popular with his base and turns out crowds that neither Haley nor DeSantis could corral if they were offering attendees at their ralies a $1,000 bucks per person.

This is the heart of the problem — wealthy people dominate the leadership of the Republican (and Democrat) party. They live in a cloistered realm and have convinced themselves that they have their hands on the electorates pulse. What they don’t realize is that they are grasping their own tiny cock in their lobbyist greased fingers. They have no clue what working stiffs are feeling or believe.

Summary from link:

In this study we investigate the UK trends in death rates and disabilities for malignant neoplasms for individuals aged 15 to 44 by computing excess death rates and excess disability claims, which are the difference between observed deaths/disability rates and a given baseline for expected death rates/disabilities. We measure changes in the behaviour of morbidity and mortality before the Covid-19 pandemic with the post-pandemic period, for malignant neoplasms.

We show a large increase in morbidity (disabilities) and mortality due malignant neoplasms that started in 2021 and accelerated substantially in 2022. The increase in disability claims is consistent with the increase in excess deaths in 2022, and both are highly statistically significant (extreme events). The results indicate that from late 2021 a novel phenomenon leading to increased malignant neoplasm deaths and disabilities appears to be present in individuals aged 15 to 44 in the UK.

Just a note: "Jewish people all over the world" don't necessarily have a cause, including defense of Israel. Like all ethnic groups, Jewish people around the world are highly diverse rather than monolithic. That includes Jews in the US.

But yes, US support of what Israel's doing in Gaza can lead to ugliness against Jews anywhere who aren't Zionists.

There is a lot of butthurt in the American press right now. Gay’s appointment, once hailed as a “victory for diversity,” has become instead the occasion of a “victory” for “Dr. Gay’s critics … in the escalating ideological battle over American higher education.” Reporters for the Associated Press in particular deplore the fact that nefarious actors on the right are wielding a new “conservative weapon against colleges.” This weapon, they inform us, is “the threat of unearthing plagiarism.”

Poland and Hungary have refused to accept any more vaccines and are now being sued by Pfizer for not paying for millions and millions of doses.

In Romania, prosecutors are looking to take legal action against it's former Prime Minister and Health Ministers. They say it's because they bought too many vaccines which caused the state massive financial losses.

The EU has a contract with Pfizer which has locked countries into keep buying more and more vaccines until 2027. Isn't this amazing - For Pfizer's wallet?

They're not trained in chess, in looking far down the board to lay out all possible moves and outcomes in advance. Living in the moment has value, but planning for potential future moments (decision algorithms: if this, then that down every imaginable branch of action) should be an essential practice of those who make momentous decisions that affect nations and the world and those tasked with laying out the plethora of possibilities that make decisions truly informed. Defense industry contractors do this routinely for regions of possible engagement decades in advance.
