She is likely saying this because she doesn't get much useful support from her parents who are a bit clueless about how the world works.

When I was at school it was quite common for smart Asian kids to get knocked back from degree courses they were more than qualified for because they had zero life outside of school so no extracurricular activities or interests. I can't imagine much has changed since then.

When it comes to getting a job no one will give a shit of you have more than 7 GCSEs and 3 A Levels. They would have done her far more of a favour if they'd encouraged her to use the extra time she made by finishing her work quickly to get a job or work experience.

The trouble is they wont do that because she might mix with boys. Keeping her occupied with endless academic work is a great way to distract her from having any relationships outside the family or realising she has no control of her own destiny.

The other issue is that she may well enjoy and be good at taking tests but then turnout to be a complete liability in any job. I've met a few people like that.

The only thing in this I can agree with is that skipping forward a year has been shown to benefit bright kids so should be allowed.

What has she accomplished besides testing well?

That's so sad that reddit mods have such a stick up their ass they go around locking every post that gets some traction.

I can't speak for how smart she is or isn't.

But I do know that ever since No Child Left Behind, American schools have done a terrible job with the gifted. The bill said: your priority is to make sure everyone passes, so focus as many resources as possible on the lowest-achieving students.

education is the parents' job. Asian kids still excel and darkies still flunk, because the school doesn't have anything much to do that the parents won't do if the school fails to do

Most Americans believe that equal opportunity at birth is a good goal. Not equal outcomes, but equal opportunity at birth.

If you have a system where "education is the parents' job" and not public schools, you just end up with dynasties. The richest people raise the kids who become the richest, who raise the kids who become the richest, and the poor families don't have the resources to crack their way in.

People who are able to generate dynastic families

          let me be perfectly clear:

          deserve to do it

And let me also be perfectly clear: I couldn't disagree more.

There should never be two otherwise identical children where one can afford medical care and the other can't because only one of them had a successful ancestor 150 years ago. It's wrong.

red herring. how about 1 year ago when their parents were still making the same choices to keep themselves poor

1 year ago, the rich child's parents were making the choice to hire tutors and spend their time on enrichment and luxury, and the poor child's parents were working two jobs to cover the basic cost of living.

how many roommates did the poors have, to reduce their expenditures each month?

Different numbers, from 0 to 10. I've got a number of poor friends who are trying to raise kids in houses with roommates, which sounds... fucking horrible.

Meanwhile, the rich kids have all of the resources and none of the distractions and problems. Of course a much greater proportion of them are going to succeed.

poors should be allowed to make choices that keep them poor
