I love my cast iron cookware, but I wasn't convinced it was the best surface til I got to bullet point 3. The more you know.

I use an old teflon pan with the coating chipping away. It's like flakes of pepper in your food except...Wait, what's this thread about again?

According to the best three books on the subject, they all extol the virtues of cast iron. In particularly, their specific shape of cooking surface. Personally I think you can critique all of the pans just on what is written about them alone.
