It's the other way around. Israel is a people and not a land. Otherwise, what would the scriptures mean by saying Israel was in the land of Egypt? You know, the place with the pyramids? That's where Israel was, when they were in bondage, before Moses led them out into the wilderness for forty years before they came to the promised land. Israel, the people, wandered forty years in a wilderness. The people of Israel were the ones that had the word of God, regardless of what land they temporarily lived on.

What it meant, and what it currently is, are two different things. Currently it's just a rouge state. Does something gain all of the attributes from it's namesake simply by renaming itself? Does the Apple corporation create healthy snacks meant to be consumed daily? Oh wait. They stole that name didn't they?

Israel obviously means different things to different people. I will stay with God and how he defines it.

People call the capital of Israel: Jerusalem, and some even say it is the holy city. But it shall be destroyed. In fact, all of the cities created by men will be destroyed. The true holy city is eternal and shall descend from heaven, and is called by the same name: Jerusalem.

Revelation 3:12

From what original text do you trust? Do you consider any of them to be the original text? And if every single word has been translated, and then those translated words have had their meanings changed, what then? Do you still assume that to be the word of God?

I trust in the word of God. God is not dead, you know? He is not trapped in a book, either. So even if the pure word of God is corrupted by his adversary, or by people lacking discernment, I can always pray and ask God to teach me the truth, which he promises to do for all who sincerely desire the truth. And God is continually transmitting his pure word to earth to compensate for the errors that men attribute to him. Because we are now in the end days, it is indeed happening: He is pouring his spirit out upon all flesh.

If you cannot hear his voice, it is because you do not want to. And those who read the texts with the wrong motive are seeking death. The letter kills, but the spirit gives life.

I believe in modern parlance, we call that thinking.
