It makes sense that if you are victimized as a child, you will want to do something to make sure you can't be victimized again. She may feel that she was victimized as a woman by men, and becoming a man will prevent it from happening again. It's so disturbing that she could get mutilated before getting proper therapy to deal with her trauma.

That's what I was thinking. Sadly, people aren't encouraged to do the real work these days.
