Recent far right attacks on academics, democracy, teachers, schools, librarians, library books, education, PBS, intelligence, women's rights, rational people, etc. is ALL part of a 1930s German fascist-style playbook. Once merit is discarded as the metric by which a society elects its constituents for its various stations, that society is on a beeline course for dissolution.
