They don't show the weather off the coast anymore where as in the 90s they used to show not only the Pacific ocean but the jet stream which is what drives the weather systems. For us when the jet stream is north the storms go up thru Canada and down to the US Midwest while we are high n dry under a big fat ridge. They used to be called Omega Blocks but I don't seem to hear that term anymore. The weather forums used to dread the Omega Block because unlike traditional ridge periods these would be stubborn to leave and can lead to short to medium term drought no matter how good of an initial snowpack you have built though nothing is worse then rain on snow. At least with Omega blocks cooler weather at night can allow artificial snow from snow canons if it's cold enough. Most ski resorts have em, even the small ones.
